How hard would it be to "freeze" another user's name, or maybe set a nickname (visible only to you) in the lobby?

Too many jerks - and they shouldn't be able to run from their sins.

And yes, you can look it up in game - but you only really know to look if they're already on your ignore/block list or they're toxic -again- in game.

I get it - peepz want a clean slate. But if you're a toxic shit - you shouldn't get a colonic for free at the expense of others who aren't terrible to their team.

Nickname Lock or otherwise prevent trolls from changing name

Would also like to point out that often this is done as a tactical advantage - knowing who to avoid/attack/counter-previously-known-strat.

Global player name scramble should be on by default.

Changing names for preexisting people is not a big deal imo, tho it creates some extra work since u have to look at $whois to know wut player it is- if they change name should still remain blocked even if person changes nickname

You get a progressively longer cooldown on name changes up to a month. It's already too much imo.

How about hovering over a name let’s you see the first name you registered with. Like the way you see the players os

I solved this for myself by pulling all the pairs of playernames + playerids from my replay files using a powershell script

i can type a username into powershell and it tries to match them by ID
it requires code but it shouldn't be too hard to have a local file that tracks users by ID and shows alt-text of previous names you have seen that user by.

personally I'd go with 1 name change per month and maybe suggest introducing a "tag" feature that you can change which goes in front of your name
that lets players keep the ability to tag a clan and change a nickname if it needs to be update
