If you've been watching any BAR esports lately, you've probably noticed the team logos feature developed by @graceful furnace! The BAR Devs are considering extending this concept to introduce Player Spawn Logos as a reward for achievements during future competitive seasons (in which more details will be provided soon™). 😄

This feature aims to provide players with incentives and bragging rights for their accomplishments during the season. As a community member assisting with this effort, we need your input to make this feature a reality!

📝 Functionality Overview:

Player Spawn Logos: Logos displayed on a player's spawn point each time they spawn into a map (see example images) which can be seen by other players
Purpose: Reward player actions for achievements during the competitive season and provide player incentive + bragging rights.

🎯 Initial Design Goals:

Customizability: Allow players to upload their own logos (or potentially have premade logos for specific rewards)
Visibility: Ensure logos are clearly visible and distinguishable during gameplay.
Moderation: Implement a system or process to review and approve logos to prevent NSFW or inappropriate content.
Integration: integrate this feature into the current game mechanics without affecting performance.

🔧 Implementation Scope
Player Impact:

  • Over the course of a season, what # or percentage of players who participate in the season should get the reward? I.e., top 10, top 25, top 50, top 100; top 1%/5%/10%, etc.
  • Should the reward be based on leaderboard rank achieved, games won, winrate over x # of games, or other relevant metric or combination ?

Technical Feasibility (initial thoughts/needs):
Determine the best format and size for logos to balance quality and performance.
Implement an upload system for players to submit their logos.
Implement a hosting solution for logo files.
Develop a moderation tool for reviewing and approving logos.
Develop a solution for loading images into the client.

Moderation (initial thoughts/needs):
Establish clear guidelines for acceptable logos.
Recruit community moderators to review submissions.
Add a reporting option to the reporting feature for players to flag inappropriate logos.

Design Considerations (initial thoughts/needs):
Create templates and examples for players to follow.
Ensure logos fit well within the game's aesthetic (see example -> @graceful furnace 's David Hasselhof needs to be stopped!)
Plan for scalability as more players join the competitive scene / future proofing

💬 Community Input Needed:
Design Ideas: Share your thoughts on the design and appearance of spawn logos.
Guideline Suggestions: Help us define what constitutes an acceptable logo.
Rewards: What achievements constitute this award and how many players should be able to get it?

  • Let's discuss this from the perspective of the player base, developer time/bandwidth, technical complexity, and impacts to the moderation team/process/tooling. A solution exists somewhere in the middle of balancing all these perspectives
Moderation Process: Offer your ideas on how we can efficiently review and approve logos.
Technical Feedback: Provide insights on potential technical challenges and solutions.

🚀 Next Steps:
Gather Feedback: Collect ideas and suggestions from the community.
Draft Proposal: Compile the feedback into a proposal thread.
Community Review: Share the proposal thread for further input and refinement - adjust scope
Implementation Plan: Finalize general approach and decide whether to implement for a future season (not likely the first season!)

I will update the post/sections with contributions based on discussion in this thread and we can edit/adjust things as we go. Please keep the conversation on topic there is a @coarse zodiac lurking nearby I hear

I am willing to help design specific logos for league and competition winners who want something with a more personalised touch. Perhaps the same way those with the crown or medals as is given out by standard when they win or come runner up in championships can be used to determine who gets to use these logo splatters. The widget will also have to be added into the base game, and should go through rigorous testing by our widget maestros like Tom Fyuri or Hobo Joe before they are approved

I think this idea might be more fun in practice than it sounds on paper. Therefore, I think it might be best to take an incremental approach. I would suggest starting out with something small and then see what is fun and what's not. On Dog1IsOpen stream today we came up with the idea of having animal themed spawn logos. Create some low effort logos as follows:

  • Lobster This is the default spawn logo that is available for everyone.
  • Dog Available to anyone with 10 hours in-game.
  • Cat Available after 100 hours in-game.
  • Seal Available after beating Shore to Shore scenario.
  • Bug Available after winning (unmodded) Raptors.
  • Panda Available to players with over 40 OS team rating.
  • Lion (King) Available to players with over 50 OS 1v1 rating.
I would make the system opt-in, i.e. players don't see the spawn logos unless they enable it from Settings.

This thread has not had lots of interest thusfar. The more I've been thinking about the proposal above, the more I like it. I think what we would need now is for some artists to sketch some ideas. Maybe if the BAR core dev team could approve the plan, it would increase interest among artists?

I like this idea! I honestly think having some sort of unlockables like this for achieving a certain OS would drive people to try a bit harder.

Yes. Ideally, I would like to think people would also have more interest in scenarios, raptors etc.

@proud seal has expressed interest as an artist to be involved so maybe a set of mockups could be drafted and that might drive additional interest?

Sure, a bit busy this weekend so maybe this upcoming week can create something
