#Make FFA less AFUS spam

Hello hello

Since FFA seems to be the only alternative to glitters/strait during certain timezones I was wondering if anything could be done so at the very least the FFA lobby doesn't turn into a 2hr afus spamming competition.

I was wondering if it would be possible to rethink the rating gain system for FFA. Currently it seems that you only get any rating for a win, which promotes extremely passive, boring AFUS spamming and 90+ minute games.

The current meta is to kill your immediate neighbor (or two, or neither depending on the map) then afk spam porc and afus until you have enough eco to kill the rest of the map. This leads to incredibly long games and a lot of downtime between the 10-40 minute mark.

Imo this is partially due to the nature of BAR economy in which map control is less important than AFUS spamming to an extent but also because of the rating system where it's pointless to play for anything other than first place, which requires you to be head of the curve eco-wise.

I'm not exactly sure what the technical limitations are for rating gain so idk if anything could be done on that end, but if it were possible to award more points based on final ranking I think it would promote more aggression as people would be playing to reduce the player count instead of praying that they're left along long enough to scale and have an impact.

Alternatively I think promoting commander kills would also be good for the quality of games but I'm not sure how you can incentivize that given current game mechanics since I assume there's no system to award rating based on kills.

TL;DR

FFA is boring AFUS farming where only 1st place matters, we already have straits n glitters we don't need more of this

FFA has been like this since forever, I don't think we need to fix anything. Someone playing SimCity in FFA is taking the risk of getting killed by sudden Marauder raid or Liche snipe or [insert any surprise cheese here]. Scouting is king for both sides, and I've seen Dolfy or others lose to AFUS greed as many times as they've won with it 😄 Definitely finding the sweet spot between ecoing and cheesing your neighbours is a huge FFA skill.

That said if you absolutely want action-packed no eco FFA games I can't recommend enough playing smaller FFA games (4-5 players) on small maps (Hotstepper best bae), no time to chill there.

Hm I guess my problem would be that the AFUS spam is a necessity which leads to hour+ long games. I mean over-greeding is definitely a thing but when's the last time you saw an ffa won by someone without at least 8 AFUS.

If this is just a feature of the mode people like I guess that's fine and nothing can be done, same with how strait games are AFUS-fests as well

Yes in my opinion this is a feature of bigger FFA games, and indeed just BAR in general => there's a point where eco becomes more useful than map control, so the bigger the FFA, the more incentive you have to do this after you have secured a reasonable size of land, and you indeed see the same thing in team games to some extent where it's less risky to eco and outgun the enemy than try to bruteforce and risk feeding metal.
