Hello hello
Since FFA seems to be the only alternative to glitters/strait during certain timezones I was wondering if anything could be done so at the very least the FFA lobby doesn't turn into a 2hr afus spamming competition.
I was wondering if it would be possible to rethink the rating gain system for FFA. Currently it seems that you only get any rating for a win, which promotes extremely passive, boring AFUS spamming and 90+ minute games.
The current meta is to kill your immediate neighbor (or two, or neither depending on the map) then afk spam porc and afus until you have enough eco to kill the rest of the map. This leads to incredibly long games and a lot of downtime between the 10-40 minute mark.
Imo this is partially due to the nature of BAR economy in which map control is less important than AFUS spamming to an extent but also because of the rating system where it's pointless to play for anything other than first place, which requires you to be head of the curve eco-wise.
I'm not exactly sure what the technical limitations are for rating gain so idk if anything could be done on that end, but if it were possible to award more points based on final ranking I think it would promote more aggression as people would be playing to reduce the player count instead of praying that they're left along long enough to scale and have an impact.
Alternatively I think promoting commander kills would also be good for the quality of games but I'm not sure how you can incentivize that given current game mechanics since I assume there's no system to award rating based on kills.
TL;DR
FFA is boring AFUS farming where only 1st place matters, we already have straits n glitters we don't need more of this
