#Karganeth idea with future engine targeting change

So with the targeting change, if I understand it units will be able to acquire targets more often, and as a result, many anti-spam units will be effectively getting buffed, most notably razorback.

I think it would be nice if Karganeth, as the core counterpart to razorback, got some small changes that would also help against spam, as core doesn't have great mid-late game offensive options against mass spam.

If karganeth missiles had a slightly larger aoe and a small amount of impulse, I think that would be nice. It wouldn't change its single target damage, but might add to its pushing utility.

Of course, this is a hypothetical future change, based off speculation that razorback will be massively powerful against spam in the future and that karganeth will not etc, but I thought it might be worth thinking about.

I've had similar thoughts, where Cortex T3 is remarkably bad at dealing with spam. Armada has lighting-chain thor, and razorback.

Just recently for fun, I gave corkarg a cluster missile that splits into 6 mini-missiles mid-flight that target separate individual units (or off in a random point in a circle if there are not enough nearby valid targets)

Shown values are:
reload time = 0.7
mini-missile damage = 70
Target get radius = 200
So 600 theoretical DPS
[Against an afus, a single target, DPS = 250]

[Compared to the current 0.3 reloadtime, 120 damage missiles doing 400 DPS]

I know some people like to use karganeths against spam atm, do you know if they will gain much effectiveness against spam with the targeting updste?

#

also cool concept, I like it 🙂

wow that looks so good for anti spam

#

honestly that should replace current missles

karganeth should benefit a little from the targeting update.
But due to the slower missile travel time, karganeths will still overkill stuff (due to target being killed while missile is in flight).
(And I need to look at the unitscript and current reaim time, when testing this missile change, they are really bad at acquiring new targets. They derp when looking for a new target [fixed with engine update], and seem to derp for a while even after getting a new target)

The only thing is that would be quite a larger difference than increasing aoe and impulse, and it might have unexpected balance implications (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but will be more work to deal with and balance and be accepted)

#

like the reason why I suggested just aoe and impulse is because imo karganeth is scariest when it can get a sort of surprise attack against eco, going over terrain. Keeping the single target damage would keep it the same in this respect, but your change may have implications there

again, not necessarily a bad thing, maybe players should be rewarded more for getting innovating sneak attacks off, but I'm sure there will be a lot of people who disagree lol

Karganeth isn't bad against spam as it is now. I mix it in with shiva to counter spam now.

#

That combination can put a hard stop to lots of spam cos the shiva kill large blobs with their aoe while the kargs pick off the remaining/single targets

#

Also if you have a hill you can park the kargs there and they are untouchable by spam

Karg is not the counterpart to razorback. They have different roles. Please don’t change its weapon as it kills air too

Website has it as the razorback counterpart.

The purple anti-air shoulder missiles are different from the main cannons/missile tubes.

But yes, while razorback has the role of "fast and lots of damage", karganeth is a bunch of roles stapled together (anti-air, all-terrain, some homing single-target damage, it even used to have an anti-spam kick attack)

[Half the problem is Cortex T3 is all rockets, all the time.
Catapult macross missile massacre
Shiva vertical rocket.
karganeth rockets.
Juggernaut vertical rocket.
And no fire to be seen anywhere in T3]

#

Idle thoughts, I'm tempted to suggest replacing the karganeth main missiles with a flame weapon (keep range and DPS the same)

And give the cataphract hovertank some love, use the missile pods on the model's side for the anti-swarm cluster missile.

Then the website is wrong. It’s probably an aesthetic comparison. However the two are very different. For one Karg is half the price

#

Karg will be useless without AA

I'd say karganeth is the counterpart to razorback. They're both the early t3 assault units.
