I’m new to this designing industry, I was able to be the media designer for an esports tournament. I was the only person who’s designing everything for the tournament and they paid me 50$ to do my job until the tournament ends (around 2-3 months). I honestly don’t know if I’m being overpaid or not because it seems a lot to me. And I also wonder how much they usually pay when I’m creating thumbnails and other stuff for the tournament? If anyone knows please let me know T-T (I could also show some of the work I did for them to see if It’s actually worth the 50 $

Hi, which country are you from? Do you have a graphic design degree? How long did you work? 50$ for several hours is not enough in the US, for a freelancer, as you have to account the cost of software, computer, building, and also taxes, health insurance…But if you are a student and doing it mostly to help it might be ok.
I’m in the United States and I’m currently just a high school student who has a passion for this industry.
There’s no “exact” amount of hours but I almost everything that is related to the tournament like logo, thumbnails, and other informative media post. I think it ranges around 20-30 hours in a span of 3 months. I can’t ask for anything much since I’ve been doing this only for a year and the first time I was paid was 2 weeks ago
I don’t know if that 50 is alot but it seems alot to me since I haven’t made money yet so I don’t know if my work was actually worth the 50 (they seemed to pretty like it but I don’t know)
Say you worked 25 hours, it’s two bucks an hour... Even baggers make more, and it requires no skills… kudos for finding something you like, but ask yourself if you are not being exploited…
You are being exploited, period
What's the minimum wage where you are? That's the minimum you should be paid for. Otherwise you're being seriously underpaid.
Was the contract legal? Did you even sign a contract?
If you're doing it freelance (and no matter your age), the common number you want to come with is 3X the minimum wage (because taxes will have to be paid, social security too, and you're using your own equipement and software). That's the absolute minimum... (most freelancers will actually charge way more than that)
If they accepted your work, that means it suited their purpose. Otherwise they would have asked for revisions (Clients will ask, don't worry)
Can I still make legal contracts even if I’m under 18?
And does it goes the same for me signing contracts?
I wouldn't know in the US, but in the UK, absolutely!
I'm assuming you can be a soldier even below 18 in the US? Be an apprentice, work during summer holidays at Target/Trader Joe/whatever?. I will assume in that case you need to sign a contract...
It may be that you will need your parents/guardians signatures as well. You need to ask around, because I guess it depends on your state as well...
