Heyo, so I recently noticed that when I make a selection in the layers using the shift key, if there are collapsed groups within that selection it will select all layers in that group and not just the group itself. So if I then toggle the visibility of such selection it will turn all the invisible layers in that group back to visible altought I just wanted to toggle the visibility of the group I selected and not its content. Did anyone else notice this changing?
#Selecting only the collapsed groups when selecting multiple groups with shift in the layers-tab.

When you say "select", do you mean selecting with the lasso tool? Or selecting the layers with your mouse in the layers panel?
Also can you share a full screenshot of the interface with layers visible and the top bar as well (A full screen)
That helps with locating what could cause the issue
If you toggle the visibility of the group, all the layers nested in that group will become invisible. Is that what you are seeing?
I will see if I can take a screenshot that shows what I mean but yes I mean selecting the layers with the mouse and then shiftclicking the range of items I want to select. The way I remember it was, that if there were collapsed groups in that selection I would only activate the group itself but not all the layers within. So lets say for example I have 3 different designs with a group that contains all the flags I want to display but each design only uses one of the flags. Originally if I wanted to toggle a bunch of different designs on at the same time, I could select the range of groups containing the designs and then toggle the visibility of those, but now all the layers within that group would also get toggled. So if I have like a group with all flags in there, all the flags will be toggeled on altough I just want to top most groups to be affected.
So I quickly took a screenrecording of the problem I'm having. The firs time I toggle the layers visibility I selected the items in the layer-tag with shift. The second time I selected the items with crtl and clicking all three folders. When shiftselecting, all items within those folders are also affected by the toggle shortcut. I want the shift selection to work the same way the crtl selection works. So that if I have lots of groups containing subgroups I don't toggle all the invisible layers on by using the shortcut, but only the items that actually show up as selected in the layers.
Thanks for the video. I'm away from Photoshop now, but let me do some tests and get back to you later.
So the normal behaviour would be that only those visible before you hide the whole group will be visible when you show it again. Should be the same if you use the shortcut (hide group CTRL+, or use the menu item in layers
It's the same when you use the ALT+eye icon to "hide all but this one"
So unless I missed anything (which is very much possible!), it looks like it's working properly on your end.
I am trying to find if there's a possible shortcut that would reveal/hide everything irrespective of what was hidden within the group previosuly
Although I don't know in your case which shortcut you used (apart from the multi selection SHIFT)
Shift basically selects all without a start and an end (here, layer 1 to layer 4, without having to select 3 and 2 individually.
Ctrl allows you to select individually with the possibility of leaving "gaps"
So IMHO this behaviour is the correct one (and will act the same than if - say - you're selecting files within a folder in the Windows file explorer or similar
CTRL+SHIFT should have the same behaviour than SHIFT alone
see this link to see if it helps
Maybe that's the one you need
Maybe that should help as well

Sorry no idea... Not even sure to understand what is happening on the video (what key(s) are used at 9-10 seconds?) ...😶🌫️
I can't reproduce it on my end and My photoshop behaves normally (hidden layers still hidden when I it Hide/Show icon of the groups...
Yes, I wasn't sure either!
I can see if I can put it into a more practical scenario later, but thank you for taking the time.
I'm not entirely sure, but it might be worth looking into layer comps:

Maybe this is better. This should also show the keystrokes. So when I select the 3 groups with shift, all layers in between get turned on. In this case all the flags that are in that one group. If I select the individual groups using crtl it reacts the way I would expect it to. I feel like it used to be that only the actuall groups that show up as selected in the layers-tab are affected by the shortcut. So let's say I want to turn on multiple of these designs with shift , I turn on all the flaggs in all the groups that I selected.
