When I select an area for Ai it uses the outside selection to help blend the area but It ends up changing details that alter the image. For instance when I remove a trashcan from the background and it's next to a person's arm it would change the arm to help blend the image but it's not what the person;s arm actually looks like.
#Is there a setting to stop Ai from changing parts of the image that are outside the selection?

It's a bit the way it work, if you create a detailed selection, you can use that selection to create a mask afterward and remove the bits that went overboard.
You can trial and error the amount of tightness to the actual area you want to change, sometimes you just need a few pixels outside the area for it to actually work, but not much. Which makes it easier to remove the extra bits
