Attached is a photo of a logo I sketched out (Queen Hornet logo), and with that is my predicament... In order to get the specific overlap effect I want, the base shape needs to intersect itself as one piece; **however **(as shown in the picture), the shape subtracts any and all overlapping areas automatically. Separating the overlapping portion with empty space would bypass this issue, but then it's no longer one piece - this is an absolute last resort... What's interesting, however, is that the Stroke of the shape overlaps perfectly fine, yet the Fill of the shape is somehow subtracting the overlapping areas. I managed to find something about the "Fill Rule" and that changing this setting from "Even-Odd" to "Nonzero" could fix this overlapping issue, but I have no clue where to find such a setting ;-; and "Combine Shapes" isn't an option because it needs 2 or more shapes to work... I'm lost and confused
#How to Create a Self-Intersecting Shape?

Have you tried using the path operations in Photoshop?
(when you choose any vector tool)
Hi, IIRC, the non-zero setting is in Illustrator.
I would draw 3 shapes in your case, the main left one, then two strokes on the right…
Yes. Unfortunately, the Path Operations only work with 2 or more shapes
That's unfortunate. I don't have access to Illustrator, so I guess I'll just have to settle with the 3 shapes you mentioned. Thank you for letting me know!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @balmy blade (current: #19 - 107)
No illustrator available - that's very unfortunate.
Fun fact:
- Copy the intersecting shape from PS to Illustrator
- set the intersection rule to non-zero and copy it back to PS
--> then all is well (but unfortunately there is no way directly in PS with a single self-intersecting shape)

That's a shame. Thank you letting me know, tho!!
Honestly, I'd pay someone to make a PS plugin for that
Dunno if the FX operations would register it as an overlapping object, tho... That'd be another potential issue even with such a plugin..... Unless.. Someone makes a plugin for that 👀 Then we got a plugin for the plugin 👀👀
I'd pay for both to be made, tbh... Depending on the price. Might go on Fiver for that, lol
Not sure it will help but there is a 3rd party plug in available that reproduces the path finder (from Illustrator), but In Photoshop
Let me try to find it
That's the one.
To get it go to your CC app, choose "Stock and marketplace" on the left bar, choose then "pluins" in the top bar, and then type "pathfinder" in the search bar
