#Remove dullness from game assets

Ive legally ripped some game sprites, with the permission from a community manager of the game, but the game uses shaders, usually when making games, developers add a dull layer on their sprites and then put them in the game files, and when its being processed in the game, a thing called "shaders" modifies each pixel removing the dull thing. this is incase no one steals it. so ive only been able to get the sprites
but they're dulled.

here, ive taken a screenshot of the game, and how it looks, and ive also overlayed the sprites next to it, the sprites are circle orbs, this "dull" effect is only used on low opacity/transparent assets in the game, such as these orbs for example, they're drawn low opacity on the inside to give it a "glass" or "crystal" sphere look.

#

heres the entire sprite sheet, you can modify everything you want to, by looking at each low opacity sprite, most of them are mainly the circle orbs, and the moon curves. you can do it if you want to further experiment on getting rid of the dullness effect

#

heres an icon from the game that wasnt affected with the dullness, it's also low opacity on the orb background

#

I tried just brightening it
but as you can see here, brightening doesnt fix it, its still dulled and colourless

#

the thing is, on a BLACK background
the sprites look normal, because the dullness is not visible, its hidden on a dark background, but on a white background, eh... you can clearly see the dullness

#

I think shaders do something similar to this, they apply it on a black background and then extract the image off of it, removing the dullness

#

oh and heres a sprite you can modify/test on:

#

I think photoshop has a way it can extract colours off of a background, but im not too sure about the opacity

What you probably need is enhance the saturation, not the exposure, you might need to tweak things with it, enhancing some colours instead of others.
Also, try to keep things neat and simple 🙂
Your post is very long for no obvious reason. I think some people may have read your stuff, wanting to help, but when they saw the wall of text, said "nah, I don't have time"
You really (rather heavily) rely on the help from others in this server, and that's a good thing!
Just make sure you make it easy for folks to help you 🙂

hello!

#

saturation, are you sure?

I am saying that because if I wasn't waiting for an answer elsewhere you would still be waiting for an answer to your post

thanks a bunch, hopefully it might work, though, when overlaying it on a black background, these look pretty much how i want them to look, and from there i can further test with the saturation and hue

#

would you happen to know how i can remove the background off of these translucent assets?

#

someone i knew from a few years back knew a method

#

they could remove the background off of transparent objects preserving the colours

You need to start by the basics, I always say that but it still hold true after all those years
Go to Photoshop, go to the help menu, and check the tutorials there. Don't try to do anything that you NEED to do, as in, learning just what is helpful to you, but learn the base instead. Once you've done that (should take you a couple of weeks at most) you can try to figure out things by yourself, and occasionnaly ask for help for particulars.

#

Those two weeks are crucial...

#

true! I use krita, it's capabilities are nowhere near photoshop, but I sure can easily know what I can/need to do regardless of mine (or another persons) problem

#

when I will afford Photoshop, I bet I'll know exactly when and where to use what

dawn saddle
#

Yes, because Photoshop is succh a monster of a program it calls for a steep learning curve, hopefully I doesn't l;ast long, but you really need to know the baics, otherwise yo'll never learn more advanced techniques and you'll feel limited

I know, I try my best to avoid it, but I know what I've learned, it's a bit better than saying I know nothing, I could maybe even apply what I learn using the tools in other programs!

dawn saddle
#

I don't mind personnaly, but time is limited, for example I work full time, I spend time here helping folks, it's on my free time where I could watch Netflix or whatever

#

I'm sure Krita have a discord server of their own though

time is so chaotic <3

dawn saddle

It's how you choose to spend it

exactly

#

i dont know if its the worst or best part, but its that I help a lot of people but I do it for free

dawn saddle
#

What do you think I am doing here?

#

All the people you see answering questions in this server do it for free

#

There is no one paid to do it

blazing cradle
#

Helpingggg 💗
But what I meant is I spend like a few hours on a photo edit, drawing over, cutting out, layering, drawing again.

#

More of doing the work for them, y'know

dawn saddle
#

But to each their own...

blazing cradle
#

Yeah thats what I meant, I dont know if it's the worst part or the best part 😂

dawn saddle
#

But as I say, I will never discourage anyone to do it.

#

Keep on helping people though 🙂

#

I need to go, still some work to do and it's getting late here

#

Test the things I shared with you and see if they help
