Colouring/editting a background completely

Hello - wondering if someone can advise me not sure how complex this is...

The image attached is the base I have like a little logo I created on the top right with an image in the middle to blend into the background however I only want to keep the two middle pillars next to the image and animate it a little/blend with picture

Then for the rest of the image colour it or mosaic it differently, maybe something like this in the next pic:

For example changing the whole background except the middle to part to something like this with different shades of colour or so on - whether it's from google or me creating it from AI

Sorry I worded it pretty badly I Imagine - I want to change the whole image background with different mosaic patterns for example EXCEPT for the two middle pillars - I want to keep that in there and maybe animate it a little

but I want to maybe make a different background creating different mosaic patterns or colourful different patterns like this around it:

if you want to change the background, you have to separate what you want to keep on a new layer. You can use layer masks to hide the background and then place your image below

ah i see so my next question is layering that would be pretty easy as i might be overcomplicating it so that's good.

However let's say I want to add different patterns or backgrounds such as this at the top:

I'd have to create different layers and try to cover the background as much as possible right?4
