Generate photorealistic seamless patterns with just two generative layers in pattern preview…

@halcyon latch I'm not using the offset filter. My process is…

  1. Create a blank square image and select all
  2. Use Generative Fill with prompt like "photo of vibrant jungle leafs"
  3. Menu "View" -> "Pattern Preview"
  4. Move the generative layer by 50% of your document width/height to the bottom/right
  5. Use the Polygonal Lasso to make a selection of area where the pattern does not match. A cross shaped selection with spiky edges gave me best results (see screenshots).
  6. Use Generative Fill with no prompt to make a seamless pattern

If you want to generate more variations of your initial generative layer, it's important to move it back into position. Otherwise generative fill will not generate expected results as most of the layer is off canvas. Or you could wrap your generative layer in a smart object…

@halcyon latch using the Offset filter would be actually a lot more elegant. Thanks for that hint! …I think it's a bug that it does not warp around. Just reported it.
