This game is currently the only game I can't play with my friends on Linux and have to boot to Windows.
Most games I play run the Windows version via proton, but because HFF "supports" Linux natively by having a Linux depot and a launch configuration, steam uses that instead.
The Linux version is outdated and last updated 6.3 years ago according to steamdb, and I cannot connect to multiplayer lobbies in that version.

Please consider updating the linux version, or completely remove it to make steam launch the latest Windows version with proton.

Thanks for the reply.

Proton is pretty good now (in my experiences) and the latest numbered version available in steam client is Proton 9.0-2 so I think whatever compatibility issues there were should be resolved now.

The problem is because this game have a Linux launch configuration (can be seen on steamdb), steam priorities that native version, which is very outdated.
Personally I don't fault game devs not providing a native build for Linux, but they should at least remove the outdated version to let steam correctly download the latest Windows version. I don't even have the exe on my disk right now, instead I have an outdated 6 years old Linux ELF binary Human.x86_64.

I could try to download the Windows depot with DepotDownloader and try to figure out if I can play that with steam P2P/lobby or something, but at that point I might as well just reboot to Windows and be done with it.

TLDR: No native Linux support is OK, remove outdated stuff to let steam magic work.

SteamDB still shows the Linux launch configs and depot, and no one said anything. But I have a .exe on the disk after the latest update now. Thanks to whoever made the change, I guess.
