Camptosaurus

Camptosaurus are social, chatty, friendly creatures that can be found nearly anywhere!

  • Camptosaurus are diurnal.
  • Dimorphism:
  • Males and females typically look the same, doing their best to blend into the habitat they settle into.
  • Camptosaurus are aggressive when nesting.

Capmtos are quick to try and overwhelm possible threats. Anything that dares get to close to young, will be met with the full force of the group! Any sub-adult/adult members are quick to rush the threat, biting at ankles before quickly hopping away in hopes to catch its attention.

Group Dynamics

Nani A "Fluffle" is an ♾️ number of females and young and up to 5 adult/sub-adult males.
Nani Fluffles are lead by over all majority vote, however they will follow the oldest female if an agreement can't be reached.
Nani A "Colony" is an ♾️ of adult/sub-adult males.
Nani Colonies have no clear leaders, with all of the males sparing and bickering over bushes, good resting spots, etc.

Early Life
╚════════╝

Hatchlings

Hatchlings do not leave the nest area for anything and rely solely on their mother for care.

Juveniles

Juveniles will wander from the nest, but not far. At any potential danger, they run back to the safety of the nest without question, even if what they perceived as danger was not actually a threat, such as docile critters or particularly scary looking rocks.

Adolescents

Adolescents start following their mother around, learning how to find food for themselves and learn the rules of the group they are in. They begin to mimic their mothers, following her rather she wants them to or not.

General Behavior

Nani While Camptos can be found anywhere, most individuals have their preferences and are rarely seen outside of these preferred biomes.
Nani Males are surprisingly aggressive, constantly sparing with one another and nipping at anything that gets to close.

Interspecific Behavior

Nani Camptos protected by Guardian Utahs. They see these utahs as just strange camptos.
greenarrowrightFemales are often seen lounging with them and even leaving their young with them as if they are another campto in the group!
greenarrowrightMale camptos see these utahs are equals as well, often challenging them to sparing matches and attempting to push the utahs around as they would another camptos. Most of the time, one good bite is all it takes to show these males this is a bad idea.
Nani Due to them seeing Utahs as equals, female Camptos are known to adopt hatchling/juvie utahs as well. These utahs will typically move on once they reach adolescent.
Nani Hatchling or juvenile camptos are known to follow Utahs if they find them, however they will move on once they reach adolescent! (Unless of course they are adopted as part of a Guardian herd)
Nani Camptos are willing to share space with any herbivore that allows them too, though male camptos are often chased off due to their temper!

Threat Reaction
╚════════╝
Nani Camptos typically opt to run when they can. Using their numbers, they scatter in an attempt to cause confusion.
greenarrowright Some adults may loop back and nip at the heels of threats to allow others to escape, but this is never to kill and only to catch the threats attention.
Nani If threats are spotted from far away, Camptos often try to just hide.
Nani Camptos rarely stand and fight, only doing so if escape is simply not an option.
greenarrowright Camptos are more likely to fight when they are cornered or the threat is smaller than them.
