If you get Corrupted infection from the corrupted bears and then get Overweight from being a damned hoarder. you suddenly learn to go even further beyond. My melee attack speed seems to go the full way around making me slap with my melee weapon almost immediately.

It's very easy to reproduce. Go to the bear area north of the cobalt tower. Fight the bears for their hides, mine the ores, get that cloth stuff. Inventory fills up, you're near constantly corrupted as it lasts 4 minutes, then the second you get overweight your melee weapon turns into a machine gun.
