Ok I'm not going to lie, I'm baffled what is being described here. I think you're playing Dungeons and Dragons. I don't know who your party is--it's Beppo, I think, and then other people you didn't name while David is an NPC? What level are they? AC 21, +6 to hit is not "clear that they're outmatched" unless we're low level.

Then everything that you've said about the curse and what happens after this fight is some sort of giant cutscene that is essentially incomprehensible. So much is written as if it will automatically happen this way and that's either not possible to ensure if these are players, or you're writing the entire plot for your NPCs and there's nothing for the players to do
