at the moment preserving raw food is as simple as digging a basement and putting ice to cool the room down even further
One of the main reasons this is ahistorical is due to a fact those kinds of cellars would be full of mildew and mold which would destroy any raw food

The game should guide us towards preserving food either as flour or dried and salted meat instead of raw ingredients

Additionally mildew and mold would make a good feature to make people sick if they eat any spoiled food

mildew and mold as a feature

would be nice if the person downvoting explained why
damp was and still is an issue with these setups irl so it would make sense for it to be in the game, especially now when we have water

I'm not the first down vote, but the second. Mildew and mold are annoying in real life (even worse for me since I'm allergic to them both). Let's not add annoying features to GM.

This game has the tags Simulation and Strategy. A simulation is always based around reality. If there are people that like it easy, then play easy mode. Adding mechanics like these could create even more micromanaging. It would lead players to be more realistic and actually learn about ways of sustaining life in a low tech way.

I think this feature could be interesting for hardcore playtroughs but i think a option to turn it off would be good.

I agree with it being a feature you can choose to turn on. Villagers getting a "queasy" debuff from eating food made with mildewy ingredients would be interesting and challenging.
