#(SOLVED) Eternal red void right after shader compilation screen

i wanted to wait for a patch to see if it fixed this issue I've been having for a few weeks, but after some fiddling for just under an hour im still stuck.

i love this game and i wish i could play it more to fully explore the new 1.0 release, but i haven't been able to get to the main menu since my first time looking at 1.0 with my friend in CO-OP

the steps i take that cause this issue is this:

  1. I turn on my headset (Meta Quest 2)

  2. I open steam link in the headset with steam open on my computer

  3. I connect to my computer in steam link, which launches SteamVR automatically

  4. In SteamVR i set my speakers to my headphones in the windows task bar

  5. Inside SteamVR, I start ITR2 and wait for the shaders to compile

  6. The game takes me to a red void and doesn't load anything past that

in this red void my controller pointers still exist, im able to see them by using OVR advanced settings to drag myself higher to where the void becomes a bit thinner, its just like a big fog that stretches on forever. also the menu music still plays here and sometimes i can hear the button highlighting sounds occasionally when entering the void

Things I have done to try fix the issue:

  • Tried both the public version and active beta of the game in both dx11 and dx12

  • Tried all versions of steamvr

  • Tried ALVR as well as Steam Link

  • Deleted all of my shader cache in my files

  • Deleted all traces of both SteamVR and ITR2 to attempt a fresh install of both programs
(including everything in appdata like save files and settings)

  • Verified files for both SteamVR and ITR2

  • Adjusted various game settings inside its .ini file, like the height or graphics

  • Disabled all SteamVR plugins

  • Adjusting preferred GPU for ITR2 and SteamVR in Nvidia Control panel

  • Updating GPU Drivers

  • Running the game off of a different SSD

  • Using playspace mover from OVR Advance Settings to explore around the void for the main menu

  • The fixes in #workarounds

as far as i know i haven't seen a similar issue anywhere on the discord or the reddit so this is bordering on a cry for help

below is my setup

VR

Meta Quest 2 using a dedicated wireless connection

PC

Windows 11 Pro

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti

32 GB RAM

Intel i7-14700F

i think i may have found a fix, i never knew there were additional game files stored in documents. after deleting them the game boots to the main menu

#

i will mark this as fixed if i manage to get it working in vr

#

seems like the game is all fine now
