Game crashes PC on startup

Description: When trying to launch the game the window opens and stays black for a moment before hard crashing my pc and forcing a restart. It doesn't happen with other VR games.
Steps-to-reproduce: I boot up the game
Frequency: Always
VR headset and controllers: Valve Index with index Knuckles
CPU/GPU/RAM: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X / GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT / RAM: 32gb 3600hz

Do you open steamvr beforehand? How do you launch the game? On the headset or pc?

And what is your default openxr runtime set to

i tried openxr but idk if i did it right tbh. i just got it today and tried booting with it twice with same result

The openxr toolkit has been said to cause issues. Ensure it’s not running and if that doesn’t help you might possibly need to uninstall it

Just make sure in your headset, you make sure that steamlink is set as the default openxr runtime

i tried just booting the game raw like 5 times nad it all crashed my pc. now im downloading all this stuff because the game needs openxr apparently so idk what im doing

why cant i just launch the game like itr1 by just hitting play

Are you opening steamvr before booting the game?

And are you using steamlink wireless or quest link with steamvr

ive tried opening steamvr before booting the game and opening the game before steamvr

im directly wired

no wireless vr

I suggest doing this.

-Make sure graphics drivers are up to date
-Open steamvr on quest link
-Go to vr settings and ensure steamvr is set as the openxr runtime default
-Attempt to boot up the game inside your headset

If none else works, try verifying the game files then re attempting the steps

i dont have a quest headsset if thats what thats for, i have an index

Ahhh. I see. So just make sure openxr toolkit isn’t open while running, run steamvr, make sure openxr runtime is set to default for steam, and try running the game on your headset

i dont have an option to change the runtime, it just says steamvr

It’s been known to cause issues. Try to make sure it’s not running (double check with task manager), then try running the game again through steamvr on the headset

If that doesn’t work, attempt to uninstall openxr toolkit and try again

You don’t need the openxr toolkit

If it’s installed, ensure openxr toolkit isn’t running.

Via task manager

In some cases (as stated by the devs), openxr toolkit if installed on your computer may have to be uninstalled

Try opening the game now (through you headset)

Aka just click play on the game through steamvr inside your headset

i was having the crashing before i got openxr, i got it because i thought it might fix it

In the headset I see the splash screen for a split second then my pc restarts

It’s only itr2. Never had this issue with any game vr or not.

Once you get back on, try clicking the windows button and x, go to your terminal (admin) and run the command

sfc /scannow

Sounds sketchy but here

It will check for ANY corrupted files and repair them, but I have no clue why your pc restarted

After trying that try the previous steps

so i found out that my drivers were causing my pc tp crash. reverted to an old version and now im good

but the game itself crashes on startup still

that exact thing is happening to me, ive tried everything ive read so far and nothing has fixed it. no clue what to do
