Hello friends
I have recently ordered the meteor 75 pro, the RadioMasters pocket and the ED 800 goggles

My question is should I update the radio does it make any difference?

Beyond setting up a bind phrase should I update my drone? (Is flashing it updating it?) or leave it stock?

Should I discharge the drone when I crash? How do people flip the drone when they crash?

Is there anything I should be aware of or do before my first flight?

Of course I’ll train for many hours in the simulator but I haven’t saw stuff that should be done before you actually fly

Thank you

If anyone can point me to a relevant source it would be awesome

Assuming it all works when you get it don’t flash anything. Just set it up and enjoy it

It’s likely that the RM pocket and the whoop are up to date enough so updating them further will more than likely just make things more difficult for you since you don’t know your way around all of that yet.

No need to discharge the batteries if you plan on using them soon. If you are going to be away and not fly for a few days you can discharge them to storage voltage (3.85v per cell). The Vifly Whoopstor V3 is an awesome charger for 1S batteries if you don’t have it yet

The flip over is what we call turtle mode or crash flip mode. It can be set up in the modes tab of Betaflight. Note that turtle mode is taxing on your ESC and motors so use it somewhat sparingly so you reduce the risk of burning it up.

Radiomaster Pocket is good enough to start with, don't think about upgrading right from the start, just enjoy flying, and you'll know if you to upgrade later.

Leave it stock, bind it, check the controls, and apply the ELRS preset for your packet rate. Turn off ADC filter in your radio.

If by discharge you mean disarm then yes, to avoid damage you should disarm when you crash.

To flip the drone after a crash, you can use "turtle mode", officially called "flip over after crash" in betaflight. You will have to bind it to an AUX channel (a switch on your controller) in the modes tab. You flip that switch while disarmed, then arm and move the right stick, the quad will flip over.
