Setting up a receiver isn't that hard, you just want to make sure your VTX isn't overheating when you plug in your battery. But I'd just flash the newest ELRS firmware with my binding phrase, then that's it. It shouldn't take any more than a couple minutes.

You can't really solder an ESC larger than a Tinywhoop with a conical tip because an ESC is basically one giant heatsink, you need something with a flat tip so that the heat transfers faster so you're not just heating up the whole thing.

these radios have LOTS of features

basically, each item on there that moves is an input

every switch and gimbal axis

each axis is a channel, so you have throttle, yaw, pitch and roll as your first 4 channels, then each switch can be a channel

each channel can have a position

obviously gimbals get LOTS of positions, i think its like 1000 positions or something

because it changes as you move

a standard two position or 3 position switch on the radio is a channel, and it can be in one of those two or 3 positions at any time

the buttons there are treated interally like its a switch with 6 possible positions

inside betaflight on the drone, you get to pick what channel does what

it looks like this

the mode is on the left, then the bar represents the channel that you chose

if the channel is set in a position that is within the yellow bar, the mode is active. inside the grey bar, and its inactive

the top one in that image is arm

if the arm channel is lower than "1700" itll be active, higher than 1700 and its inactive

moving the switch or the axis or that button changes the current position of that channel, right now their aux 1 (channel 5) is at 1725 i think

if they move whatever they set that channel to in their radio, like a switch, itll move from 1725 to somewhere else

TLDR dont worry about the buttons there, they wont do anything at all if you dont program them and they honestly arent that useful because you have a bunch of other switches. some airplanes with flaps and gear and guns and whatnot need more stuff
