#First Drone Parts List
13 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I am myself new to this hobby and there are many resources out on the internet if you search carefully and myriads of combination of hardware that go together. this is a good starting point. https://www.fpvknowitall.com/fpv-shopping-list-five-inch-freestyle/
However before I build my first drone and shop for all the parts I would highly recommend you to get a drone radio/joystick and practice fpv drone flying in a simulator like liftoff, trypfpv, velicidrone etc. as it takes a lot of skill and understanding on how to fly a drone.
Once you are proficient in the simulator then you can start putting together your real drone.
DISCLAIMER: please do your own research, as you will be the one fixing your drone once it falls or breaks and it will fall or get stuck at some point, even the best of the best fpv pilots crash. knowing how the various parts connect together is really important as you will require this skill to put it all back.
To sum it up.
your fpv freestyle which films journey will be like this.
- get a drone radio controller / joystick
- pick a simulator
- understanding the basics of drone flying in the simulator and becoming confident
- parts hunting for your actual drone
- understanding various firmwares and how they work and learning to fine tune them for your flying
- actually fly your drone
- now you can mount your gopro or other cameras on the real drone and learn to maneuver it.
- congratulate yourself for unlocking a new skill as its not a easy path.
Good Luck and Best Wishes for your journey.
Above all be patient , never rush and research well.
PS. I got the Radiomaster Boxer (ExpressLRS version) as my first controller a few days ago and I am practicing in a simulator called Liftoff. If you like xbox style controller check Radiomaster Zorro or TBS Tango 2 PRO. These are not recommendations so please find what best suits for your use case.
yeah been hitting the sim for the past few days just with my ps4 controller
going good
now onto figuring out what parts will be best for me
I would highly recommend to practice on a PC with a real controller as its what you will use to fly your actual drone. the muscle memory you form will be key to flying the real thing in the real world.
Regarding radio systems
As there are various radio systems that go on various controllers.
- ExpressLRS , Crossfire, Ghost and Tracer are modern radio systems. There are more.
- ExpressLRS and Crossfire are what I have heard people talk about the most.
- ExpressLRS is open source and that's why lot of manufacturers make ExpressLRS products.
- Crossfire is closed source and expensive and Team Black Sheep or TBS can only make Crossfire products or if they partner with others.
I have gone with ExpressLRS as my radio of choice as its open source and well developed.
I would also like to share that those who use Crossfire absolutely stand by it especially for long range flying.
ExpressLRS would be the obvious choice
Yes, elrs is one of the clearest choices nowadays. Good luck!
do you have any goggle suggestions?
