#Tinyhawk 3 + Taranis X7 Binding problems

Hello all,

I am a beginner to the FPV drone space and bought a Frsky Taranis X7 controller, and a Tinyhawk 3 after a little research.

I soon realized that the controller lacked the D8 mode that was required to properly communicate with the drone, and started researching on ways around having to buy an external transmitter that converts D16 into D8.

So far i've managed to:

  • Change the receiver mode to FRSKY_X
  • Re-map the inputs from the controller to the drone
  • Update the controller firmware, bootloader, and internal transmitter firmware
  • Stop the bootloader menu from appearing (fuck)
  • Confirm via Betaflight that the drone is receiving input from the controller (Roll, Yaw, Pitch, Throttle)

Even though I can see that the drone receives signals from the controller via betaflight, when I plug the drone into a battery, and increase the throttle, the drone does nothing. The light on the drone stays solid blue like it has successfully binded to the controller, but moving the inputs on the controller does nothing.

Have I screwed something up here? Am I going to be forced to buy an external transmitter?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

@left rock have you got the arm switch set up in betaflight?

I do not / I don't think so.

#

apparently I do

fair halo
#

Yep. thats what you need.

#

you just need that linked to a switch. Most peeps use the top left 2 position. but it can be any you choose

#

and while you are there, you may want to set Angle mode to another switch, if this is your first quad.

the antenna on the controller is very directional 😛

#

What setting do I need to change to completely stop the motors when I move the throttle to 0?

fair halo
#

yeah, that's a thing. no one loves Frsky anymore. 😆

#

Turn air mode off, turn Motor stop On.

Does disarming it also work?

fair halo
#

Yes. It should stop the motors totaly when disarmed.

Cool 👍

Airmode is important to keep the quad from stalling a motor at low throttle when you get to Acro mode, but you can set it to the aux switch so it comes on only when you use acro mode, and are armed.

Awesome

Alright then, I'm going to go off and practice flying a FPV drone for the first time 😆

After 3 days of troubleshooting 😆

Thank you for your help!
