Roboquest takes place in the year 2750, as we follow the story of a girl named Max, who has just left her village to survive on her own. Suddenly, Max’s metal detector goes off, and she goes to investigate. Buried in the sand, she finds a robot. She drags the robot into her van, and sees that the robot is called ‘Guardian’, and its mission is to ‘TAKE HUMANS TO THE CITY’. Then, Max inserts a power cell into the Guardians. Then, the Guardian powers on, busts out of the van, gestures to Max, then (presumably) points in the direction of the city, as they drive off. Eventually, you reach a station in the canyons, which is where you and Max decide to set up base. This is where the real game begins, and you can start playing. Although, there is no canon pathway in the game. After clearing some levels, you and Max gain access to Haven 8, which is when you meet IRIS, an evil AI. Eventually, after passing through the different areas and levels in the game, you reach Haven City, which is where the story picks up again. Haven City is supposedly the sanctuary where humans originally lived, but they were exiled by IRIS. After passing Haven City and District XIII, Iris reveals that it is on the Moon. Max then transforms the van into a mini spaceship, and the two of you fly to the Moon to confront IRIS. Finally, you reach the final room where IRIS reveals itself in a large, buglike form. However, when you defeat this body of IRIS, an explosion occurs and you wake up in an empty plane with IRIS’ true body in front of you. After defeating IRIS’ true form, a smaller version of this form shoots out of it, as IRIS wakes up, confused. It’s revealed that IRIS was actually meant to be a beneficial companion to humans, but went rogue and exiled all of them from the city. As IRIS realizes what it’s done, Max tells IRIS to snap out of it, as she points to the Earth and says, “We got a lot to do.” The screen fades, and the credits roll. There you go, a bare bones summary of Roboquest’s story.
