So I've been able to find the sfx file that affects the torch in DS3. I've opened it up in the FXR3 editor. Inside the file I've narrowed it down to the point light that is being created. I've checked "cast shadows" but it's still not casting shadows in game. I assume this is because the diffuse setting isn't correct or there's some shadow transparency setting I'm missing. But with so many UNKs, it's hard to know. Has anyone dug into these files for similar things? ty!
#DS3 SFX file editing to enable torch light emitting shadows

quick update. I did get shadowcasting to happen from the torch! Which is rad. But now the shadow flickers horribly. The setting in particular that enabled the shadow casting to be visible is oddly the fourth "f32 Movement?" It was originally zero. 0.1 and 0.2 don't enable it. 0.3 and above does. Very odd.
fourth from the top I should have said
Did you check the fxr notes?
Find an fxr that does what you want first
I’m not really aware of any shadow casting lights, but it might exist
I was able to get the torch casting shadows correctly! Just had to fiddle in the dark enough with the UNK settings to remove the flicker. Just a process of elimination essentially
and yes, I did narrow down first to the effect listed as the light source, which was super helpful that the editor told me that
