i've been trying to log in to town & the game gives me this message or another one saying the game will close in 10 seconds. ive already tried reinstalling the game and restarting my PC but the problem persists

Tried restarting PC, verifying integrity of game cache through steam, and re-installing.

"Game will close in 10 seconds" message can mean you're banned. Make a support ticket to if you're banned, why you're banned if so, and if anything can be done about it.
It may also be that the anticheat software is detecting something on your system that it thinks is cheating. It's inadvisable to continue to attempt to join the game in that case. Make sure everything is closed, including background "helper programs" like autohotkey or things like that. Certain mouse/keyboard drivers have even been known to cause issues.
And yeah, the lack of clear communication is completely stupid.
