I kinda wish there was an option to choose to overwrite it with a resource pack. I get that it could be used as an accessibility feature, and is also probably necessary for potentially upcoming HDR display support, but altering visuals this much can also alter the author's intent for a graphics pack. Incorrectly configured gamma can look bad and create bad impression of a pack.

Some stuff from a marketplace map and Luminous Dreams.
reducing plastic look my pack suffered from. this is going to be a large retexture of a lot of mers and heightmaps. Greatly increased the roughness of dirt and made the heightmap more coarse. (grass side still uses old dirt for comparison)
also changed leaf mer along with morning getting a more yellow lighting, it will change into a more white lighting as it gets closer to noon

Early Xbox 360 and PS3 games were always super heavy with Bloom. That's how I remember that generation, personally. But I also think you've nailed the lower saturation that was also big back then.
I also remember bloom being a really strong aspect back then. I'm definitely gonna experiment with higher emissivity to see how higher bloom looks

yeah. the mer map utilizes very drastic changes in roughness as well as metalness. this was something i did with regular copper on my other pack. the results were pretty interesting

definitely some areas this can be cleaned up
fr. since i opted to make a manual mer for it rather than just use a flat value, it took awhile. the results though are fantastic imo.

alot of the old logs were recolors of eachother so i felt jungle logs fit perfectly here
i also took some creative liberties and added in some colors that werent present in the vanilla color palette to make the texture more "noisy"as well

That might be possible? Unsure how they will handle normals and such for the water we're getting. I had a thought about SSR and I don't think it'll have a max distance, but I could be wrong since I never fully made my own SSR shader in Godot.
It'll likely switch to lower quality LODs the farther the water is from the player, its pretty indistinguishable if you aren't pixel peeping
