Guys, are there any ways found to bridge the data and version folders on the latest GDK version? for version launchers?

that's not a thing enchants do in this game.
it's inconsistent. Every other enchant, you'll either want the highest level, or you'll limit it just because you don't want it to be as powerful.

I noticed that in 1.21.130 custom underground biomes are only generating within blocks in a very small area, meaning the biome is impossible to find.
Custom biomes are broken anyways.

If they don't generate...that means they're broken.
Only the namespace and location is registered, but the actual replacement does not. Evident by none of my features are generating in those biomes, nor does the biome material change.

All my biomes are 1.21.110 and they don't generate in 1.21.130 so it's temporarily broken

You learn so many quirks when you spend so much time working with a niche item. Did you know pumpkins always choose south on Bedrock when you carve them from the top or bottom face, but face the player on Java? What a weird parody issue nobody would notice unless they are recreating a carved pumpkin 1:1 in an add-on (I was making a carved melon add-on, never released it though)
The wiki was actually wrong and said it faced the player without mentioning that that was Java only., I had to fix that on the wiki.
Its because ur slab is a custom block and it thinks its solid when its not. Doors always place their hinge on solid blocks if there is one.

Ghosting.
really alot on devices with 30fps or 60fps.
even my phone has reflection ghosting
they don't seem to use any typical reflection but rather raytraced reflection.
it's complicated but that certainly does look what it is.
There's a java shader that looks exactly like this. even though the word "raytracing" implies that RTX is required but nah, it runs fine on my laptop anyways.
and the ghosting exists on there too.
same goes the way they do volume lighting thing too that's really bad.
also the current gen console VV settings as a whole are odd.

Ok the reflections are always about a frame behind and it's super noticeable on low fps (also tip you can bump reflection resolution by increasing resolution)

This makes perfect sense tho. The reflections use previous frame reprojection to denoise and improve reflections quality
It's not implemented yet so we really have no idea
It's also a matter of the SSR having to be recalculated with movement (world space raytraced reflections wouldn't have this issue but are expensive and not worth it here)

Does anyone know if there are any changes in terms of how animations work, ticks, attack speed or anything?
With these latest few builds me previous fine working attacks, animations, now loop without stopping once it hits a target once. And the animation doesnt play fully even with "minecraft:timer": {

Been trying to fix this for the past hours but cant figure it out, got like 5 mobs that all went from perfectly working to all cutting off the animation early and looping ugh
Actually, turns out its every custom mob. Attack just doesnt fully play the animation, cuts off after like half a second. Anyone else been experiencing this?
Even some simpler mobs based on almost a 1:1 blockbench preset seem to have their animations cut off vs playing fully

i edited the respawn button to show the chest screen and then edited the ddui file in the vanilla resource pack
I think I found a bug, the minecraft:item_visual and minecraft:material_instances Shouldn't they really work with different render_methods? I put alpha_test_to_opaque in minecraft:material_instances and alpha_test_single_sided_to_opaque in minecraft:item_visual and in the game it loads as alpha_test_to_opaque
in the log it does not generate any error
The leaves are a very curious case, because in the inventory they load as alpha_test_single_sided but in the player's hand and in the world itself they load as alpha_test_to_opaque
I know this because I took the vanilla birch leaves texture and replicated it with my custom leave with alpha_test_single_sided_to_opaque and it looked very different from vanilla in the hand, but in the inventory it appeared correctly, and when I used alpha_test_to_opaque it loaded correctly in the player's hand but did not load correctly in the inventory.
and this is why we don't let me fuck around with lighting (i made it rainbow) 🤣
also it seems that the water colour is delayed and doesn't change it's colour until the next colour happens which i'm unsure on if this should be the case

no, but that's probably one of the easier things they could add since they could use the css font fallback functionality to make packs more compatible
idk how much of a priority that would be though
also the oreui menu and gameplay screens use separate minecraft seven fonts so that could get confusing
i guess that'll eventually happen soon just like little texture pack support and JSON-UI variable supports on death screen or something.
but when will they allow data driven ui on other pre-game screens

I did some more tests and the way the game renders the texture seems a bit strange, look at this, I made this small texture for my custom leave for testing purposes and the icon in the inventory and in the hand are very different, could this be an effect of alpha_test? This is so curious, the pixels look so different and strange

It's a cool effect but most likely just a bug, looks like water reduces ambient light of blocks that it touches, but ambient light doesn't go back to normal after water is removed

Useless curiosity, you define the same tool or item with durability in the repairable component is totally useless, doing this will only change the repair calculations, because the game itself already does this and with the correct calculations, I discovered this after reading on the Minecraft wiki saying that their repair was different in Bedrock and I decided to play with the Copper Spear code so I ended up discovering this, when you do not define the same item in repairable the game itself will already do the same calculations that it uses in vanilla, for example in the crafting table it adds the durability of the 2 items and adds a 5% bonus

Rant time!
I've come to realize that the removal of the event system from blocks was kinda wrong. We took the long road to nearly wind up where we already are.
Some context: I've been doing custom block stuff on and off the past few months. I've covered pretty much everything from every angle. With custom component parameters, I've really tried to modularize my systems as much as possible. In doing so, I realized that many parameters were shared for events.
A great example is trapdoors. Whether its direct interaction, redstone, or wind burst triggering, the behavior is the same: change the openness and play a sound. In my modularity, I'd decided that each of the 3 responders needed their own custom components (which makes sense, as other blocks have different needs for interaction, redstone, and wind burst triggering.
And yet… all the components wound up looking the same. Why? Because that parameterization has constant contents to be handled by scripting… events.
The funny thing is almost all my events (and I'm really doing some intricate work in my custom blocks) would have been covered by the previous event system. 90% of the actions and data I need are to:
- Set a block at a relative location
- Check for a block by ID or tag at a nearby position
- Set a state on the current block
- Play a sound
- Emit a particle
- Check the light level
- Get the player orientation
Look, I'm not saying the scripting hook system shouldn't have existed. But maybe we also need events? Like… bring back the same ones and allow us to add custom ones. We could then trigger them from custom components/general scripting as if they were a protocol.
In the meantime, I've designed a system that attempts to be as flexible and generic as possible:
- Pretty much every hook type has its own custom components. These are triggers.
- Each one of those also gets a corresponding custom action component that actually carries out the work.
- The action components are loaded and run from the action events.
- There's a
fallback_actioncustom component. If the action event isn't declared for an action, the system will look for this instead. This saves me from having to duplicate the same parameters again and again and again.
I did suggest custom block/item events: https://discord.com/channels/1138536747932864532/1247270208519929967 because for me it was during my time making my adk.
Some related thoughts:
- The 2-depth limit for custom components is wack. I almost can't do anything with that. 🙁
- There's a nasty bug where custom components fail to mount to permutations. I hate this with all my heart.
Yes, I severely despise the 2 depth limit. I thought that it has been enough time for the devs to see the stability and optimisation to at least let us know what's happening but nothing has chnaged on that end.

I'm not 100% sure, but it's something like that custom components need to be paired together in permutations. I plan on investigating this in the near future.
Oh, and one more: item APIs still blow. Don't make me swap the item out. And let me change the durability or whatever I want using an easier API. Man, I just wanna trigger a player swing event and damage the item. Instead, I get to:
- Get the source of an event (player)
- Get their equippable component
- Get the item slot of the main hand
- Load the item's durability component
- Load the item's enchantability component to get unbreaking.
- Get the damage chance given the unbreaking level.
- Manually roll the chance myself.
- Make sure the item isn't at max damage.
- Damage or break the item (including playing the break sound, if relevant) depending on 8️⃣.
- Set the item stack back to the slot.
Like… c'mon. C'mon.
It used to be something like "damage": {} as an event in HCF.

AND ANOTHER THING. Why did they name the component in scripting minecraft:equippable? That's something else altogether in entity definitions. That component, according to my notes:
Applies visuals, restrictions, and event triggers to inventory slots and subsets
slot.inventoryintoslot.equippable
It does not add the core equipment slots to an entity type, which to my knowledge are at least present on every Mob subclass in the codebase.

When they implement a feature they immediately move on to another feature (even when feedback suggests that it needs polishing).
I mean they have to work on other features when waiting for feedback, but for us users this makes the feedback process incredibly slow and frustrating.
I really hope they could organize themselves in a way that still allows them to incorporate the suggested feedback in a reasonable time frame
also this has the issue that the feedback is received but ultimately forgotten because its been so long
I think they sometimes just wanna see how things unfold, like if the takes on release are too hot or not.

You have a good point, events were good, they were just limited, so in order to have more expansion they ended up having to start all over again, the good side is that things are going relatively quickly and we are managing to do a lot of things, and I, sincerely, as a creator, am very happy.

Those are just two color palettes and expecting anyone to draw a conclusion from them as to how a texture looks is nonsensical
dusk palette is small and doesn't have any color issue related and the other one has a lot of gray colors that almost look the same to each other and some are only use one or two times
and could have been replaced by a smaller palette
