at the right settings, it was smooth 60 at 24 chunks.
and at the wrong settings, it's really bad now.
33% resolution works really well on console, and that by itself is a huge performance boost to the point where even a lot of point lights run well.

The problem is series s runs the game at 4K

1080p or 1440p would be just fine
it's terrible on PC, but great on console. There is a noticable difference on things far away but it isn't that much.

depends the definition but i heard alot from chinese people about netease having really bad performance issues and found out that bedrock we have or the international one is miles better than netease ver.
Apparently this is more of phone issues on netease's bedrock, which didn't really have any performance issues on PC or development platform for chinese people.
They described the exact same issue ive having with HAL being re-enabled on one specific android build which kinda matches up.
Stuttering pretty bad, terrible performance, sometimes graphical glitches, crashes in mid-game, etc.
there's also other issues that made people switch aswell probably due to sketchy practices that netease doing, but it's there.
yeah & the only way to change it is in system video settings
also the playstation preview has been having an unlocked framerate lately, which has been entirely been great except for screen tearing when it goes above 60

heres what im noticing right. a custom VV config is way more noticeable that VV is on compared to vanilla. I know the point of the default VV pack is to be as close to vanilla as possible but i think something within the color grading should maybe change to be more noticeable

@shadow mason Mojang can't do anything about netease anyways, hell it's not their thing but it's HAL causing issues. obviously we have RD so they probably doesn't bother.

Fun fact: it's already started to look different... On Java we can change the cloud's distance without enabling the VV since it is not out on that yet, while on Bedrock we must enable the VV to change the cloud's distance. Plus, Java now has a new fog with the upcoming drop and it looks a little bit different from the Bedrock's fog?
I was misinterpreting your message, hence why I deleted it afterwards. I assume you were referring to NetEase generally further optimizing when it comes to the performance.

While the performance caused by HAL renderer, it's probably not it for most chinese people.
Again, netease being netease, they'll just pull EA any games they do, including minecraft aswell. so it makes sense why chinese people are moving away from netease and rather play on regular bedrock instead.
i remember years ago someone made a gist or github readme complaining about netease's practices
apparently they made some sketchy fork of forge for their version of java edition
Netease doing shady practices is not just chinese exclusive. it's happened to any games that they made aswell

your basic companies what would they do — milk the hell outta it, pay to win everywhere, the game UI is literally glued to the app so you can't really play LAN at all, absolutely flashy skins, and so on. when you launch the app itself, you're already get slapped with those things.
hell some people said that this is way worse than marketplace we have now.
Netease also allows stolen contents aswell so not really you can do anything about it if it's get stolen

Yeah, we have a few chinese discord servers about nornal bedrock for around 5k-10k, unfortunately can't join them since we need some apps like QQ or WeChat to get invite, from what most chinese people told me from the DM, those are bedrock only servers. no netease whatsoever.

My takeaway with chinese mc was kind of how people treat (or more so used to treat) java and bedrock in the west, in a way that chinese Minecraft is just a ripoff of the original and therefor better minecraft. The ones you see all the big youtubers playing, thats why it obviously has to be better. Same thing happened for bedrock and java where bedrock was always treated as something lower of quality than java because of the same reasons.
But there is also a lot of fair critic with the chinese version, like the massive amounts of paywalls and copyright issues. However the chinese version does have a lot of features that we would wish to have and does a lot of things much better than "normal" bedrock, which I believe is often swept under the rug and not considered at all.

Minecraft has probably the best video settings menu i've seen in a console game
you can select your framerate (still upset they removed the options below 30fps), you can select your render distance, disable smooth lighting, etc.

VV is nice, but it lacks stuff like stained glass affecting light colour, and coloured lights in general besides point lights.
also, would it be possible for Mojang to add coloured stained glass shadows with VV?
or is the way it works done in a way where that'd be impossible or have a major performance impact
(like, following the same rules as other shadows do right now, where it's only the global light source, and point lights if they're enabled)
Yea it's entirely doable. But it requires different calculations and what not and they haven't set up all the back end upgrades for the shadowmap to do so

I really hope they actually meant it when they said that VV will keep improving based on feedback, and it isn't just "add it and then forget about it, maybe do occasional small tweaks".
There's still so much to be done with VV
I feel they've only scratched the surface
Plus currently all the features added for the release version have to be on all platforms
They can do some platform specific stuff later too like, the series consoles, PS5 and PC potentially getting updated or new effects that mobile can't handle

I have an issue about taking screenshots on Minecraft.
First screenshot is an old screenshot that I took around a couple of months ago. Second screenshot is a new screenshot that I've just took. If you take a close look at them with a pixel art editor, the second screenshot isn't as good as the first screenshot. There are some quality issues around the pixels. I've shown an example in the third screenshot.
I've tested and this isn't related to my PC at all. This only happens in Minecraft screenshots. Maybe it's because of a recent update? I don't know why it does that but I should find a solution around this because I often take screenshots in Minecraft for pixel art related stuff.
it doesn't do this when i try to take a screenshot but I think shrinking the window to reduce the GUI scale could help to avoid it
Noticed this weird NBT entry in a 1.21.100 level.dat. whenever I load the world, it adds another minecraft: to the end.
The entry has an empty value in my older worlds.
Must be a side effect of requiring biomes to have namespaces now.

I assume it's adding it to the start as an attempt to infer the minecraft namespace but it's not recognising that a namespace is already there
maybe it needs something after the final colon to stop doing it
The namespace requirement applies to vanilla non experimental as well.

yeah. single biome worlds like what java has, which are mostly functional on bedrock (and "mostly functional" is how i'd describe them on java, too). It's weird that they don't let us have them without external tools.
they were better before 1.18 messed with how world generation works (on both java and bedrock since the change affects both in the same way) :<
So I set it to minecraft:plains and it seems to have stopped.

1.19.0 broke several things related to animations
1.20.0 broke android's renderer thing that memory leaks and global resource crashes the game
1.21.0 broke skin screen again

honestly it felt like preview/beta is more stable than the stable release itself when the major came out

The Natural Texture Pack seems to be the first "by Minecraft" pack to be updated to the summer drop (or even the first marketplace pack in general to be updated to it). Doesn't seem like marketplace packs allow Vibrant Visuals yet even after they're updated to support the summer drop features?

As a NVIDIA GPU consumer, I had lots of graphics bugs both in 1.21.90 and 1.21.100 preview.

I still don't know why Mojang chose to rush the VV... It is much more complex thing than a normal content update, if a normal update takes a while for polishing, then they needed to give 2x extra time for VV for polishing...

My laptop with a kind of modern-ish igpu struggles with VV
UHD and HD are discontinued at very close bedrock's required intel driver versions. you might get a better render dragon for it just to force the game into DX12 mode and you should use VV just fine
useless VV information: low shadow will make everything (except player and few blocks) that cast shadow more pixelated.

Needing an extra image file in nobody's favorite format (TGA (yes I know it's optional (if you like your channels getting squished))) and a boilerplate JSON file that does nothing but point to two files for every texture in the entire pack that you want VV support for is kinda lame

Never understood it tbh, PNG can be exported just fine, in an uncompressed form that preserves RGB even for fully transparent pixels
It can be a pain to figure out how to configure your image editor, but it is possible
I have Photoshop, so I can deal with it, but it was a huge pain before I learned how
Okay, super ideally, there would be an image format with an arbitrary number of named channels. And so you could have an RGBAMERS image file with all the information together. Maybe this exists, I don't know. This would also fix the silly idea of using the alpha channel for emissive materials elsewhere.
Precluding that, I would just have two side-by-side textures, blah.png and blah.mers.png. Ditch the JSON file except for a shared one in extenuating circumstances. Java uses .mcmeta files for animations, and even bedrock thinks that's too many loose files and merged them into flipbook textures. But now they want individual meta files for every texture in the entire pack.
That was how it worked in the early RTX betas, but when texture sets were introduced they allowed multiple textures to reference the same PBR components. It's ideal for blocks like wool which all should share the same MERS and normal/heightmap
The weirdest part about that feature is that the textures are duplicated in the terrain atlas anyways
So video memory isn't saved at all
It may be allowed, but I scanned every file in the resource pack and I see that, without fail, every texture has:

So there is no sharing in vanilla, all the files are identical boilerplate, and just another extra step/point of friction where mistakes can be made. If sharing is a desirable feature (that vanilla isn't interested in...?), then surely it can be done some other way than this.

A grass is more reflective ie wet in a wetter biome or sunrise due to dew. A block is less bright during the day than the night.

When turning it kind of locks the rotation in increments, the moving forward or back is slow, unless I missed it is there no way to visibly see the camera position in the world?
Those movement issues are likely coming from latency, not much can be done about that. There is no way to see the camera position, in hindsight, that's such an obvious thing to have

Passing my add-on through https://mctools.dev results in numerous errors related to those components, regardless of any specified limits. So I assume the error is there rather than in the game.
