Navi has said that the initial release of a feature is always very conservative, and they they will look into extending it further in future updates. They just need to make sure the current iteration is stable.

It's unlikely, from what I understand it's related to event timing issues aka events can fire in a lot of different and unpredictable places during a tick. Similar to scripting at the time that they don't want changes between a tick

Water logging already exists they just don't let you do it
The way blocks work on bedrock water literally exists on a second layer. There's no waterlogged state.
It's just layer0 is the block and blocks can also occupy layer1, so a water logged block is just two blocks in the same space

yeah but we have no way to allow them to occupy that space. I think I've seen some people say we can modify it using nbt in structures
but I'm failing to get that to work and it's honestly just not worth it, I wanted my water breathing plant to be generated underwater but its far too tedious to bother with at this point

I would say - get familiar with script API as a way to drive block logic. That has a more clear path to release.
I can’t wait to see how would ScriptAPI look in a few months from now
Most of the focus is still to ship the existing APIs into stable - but definitely there is a lot of effort going into API at the moment.
What block event are you looking to recreat in APIs?

depends on what you're building and how much risk you can handle! we always love feedback on the beta stuff, but if you need guarantees that things won't change much, then you should stay with stable.

Marketplace content is already using scripting
It's been available to any marketplace content since January.
you need to get more into it, and now since 1.20.20 we have like 90% of after events that means you can do miracles with that
Well personally I don't really have a reason to get into it. For geyser we have complete control over the server and scripting only changes server side things... so to me the only real utility is if I need to see how a packet looks and I can't trigger it in vanilla
Which is obviously quite different from what most people want to use it for

Honestly, it doesn't really need it. Scripting is just a lot more capable than commands.
Plus scripting already has macros through template literals in JS.
I kind of wish Java would adopt a real scripting system. The devs complain how we aren't using commands right when they're abusing commands more than us.
The devs abuse the commands more than us?? Interesting.
Commands were supposed to be basic utility things you can run. Not an entire scripting system.

On Bedrock our focus isn't to build out /commands into a scripting language, we are focusing on extending the usefulness of the JavaScript engine we've embeded with more APIs.
I just want to know what the plan is for commands on Java. I'm all for more features, but as someone who literally knows everything about them, they're just becoming very hacky. It's basically a substitute for a real scripting system.

This isn't a "Bedrock vs. Java, who is right" thing. Both products are doing what we think is best with the constraints we all live in.

I've just been mainly thinking about new users to data packs on Java. The amount of things you need to learn is insane.
