I have a question (mainly for MS people probably)... are there any published guidelines for acceptable tga/png formatting with the bedrock client (e.g. color profile, indexed color vs RGB, when alpha/no alpha, etc.). Have been experimenting with a lot of converted java packs recently and noticed there are a lot of weird oddities that cause hard crashes for bedrock (e.g. indexed color images having a palette with more than 8 colors, pngs with grayscale color causing crashes in certain contexts). I would have to assume a lot of this has been ironed out for marketplace content due to the broad range of submissions?
Unfortunately since the bedrock client has basically 0 error logging for a hard crash these have been quite difficult to track down.

I don't understand - what are you trying to use tga/pngs for that are causing Bedrock to crash?
For example, I had a lava flow texture that was indexed color with 10 colors in the palette. This caused a hard crash unless I reduced the palette to 8 colors.
The issue really isn't converting java packs per se, just that Java seems to be more tolerant of more... idk if uncommon is the correct word but just more implementations of png.
So just copying over textures seems to have a lot of unexpected consequences.
it's possible that this has to due with all the platforms bedrock supports - we have about a dozen rendering systems that need to parse textures so we have to be a lot more strict
Yeah I get all that, I was just wondering if there were any specific published standards on what is or isn't supported, but it sounds like that's not the case xD
Because currently the only way to debug it is to just keep removing half the textures until you figure out what's causing the cash 💀

We might get a true next gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series
On the PlayStation channel, Minecraft is now considered as a PS5 game
However, this wasn't the case until this update
As the Wild Update didn't mentioned it neither PS5
Eh well I think they've said Minecraft is for Xbox Series X previously, even though it's just the same version as Xbox One
And they've said the game is available for Windows 11, which it is but doesn't mean Windows 11 version has anything special

One major parity thing I want to see in Bedrock is the coloured syntax

First the chat screen need to become interactable. Bedrock dosen't really have a interactable chat screen like java does.

Interactive chat on bedrock can be made possible once the UI changes and support gets added though.
Would work on PC & mobile definitely and for console, i think i have a solution, make it to be able to move the hover from chat box to the chat messages using the joystick or some button and pressing a controller keybind to select the message to make it interact with.
It could probably be integrated into rawtext but it's probably not high priority

Yeah candles use alphablend material it seems. There's definitely a bug report waiting to be made. Same can be said about banners, but they at least store the depth unlike candles

bedrock has no pre/rc release stages, so people have no idea what preview stages are they on, it gives them illusion where they might expect more stuff coming, like late feature additions or changes, but in the end, its just small bug fixes than expected. having that kind of comms would be a bit helpful so people can lower down expectation and prepare for stable release for those on stable

the api hasn’t been officially released, but we can import them and do stuff to experiment with the api. Both APIs made by different teams, they have slightly different api structure

Thats the issue for me, why switch over to editor mode (I guess its current infancy is part of it) an entirely different mode of the game that requires its own shortcut, just so I can build? What if I want to intergrate entities into my build somehow, or do things that the editor mode doesn't let me really do?
Its a cool API and all, but like, I don't see the usecase for production teams when better alternitives for building exist on both bedrock and java.

👀 It's still in 0.3, just like HCF, very experimental and very prone to changes. Once it's released it will have the capabilities to live up to Java's world creation tools and make sure that MP teams dont use Java to build their maps

iirc when Pocket Edition was in development they just copied Java’s translations and started using then
like the controls png file. they just crossed out the old controls and added now ones in the empty space. then with this new controls, they finally redid the image properly
they should have gone with it. i wouldn't have to make a resource pack to rename cooked beef to steak
