I would say start with C (this is what I started with btw), it's a pain but it should teach you a base foundation for coding language. But learn Python if you feel like you're just not able to understand it.

Also this goes without saying but every language has it's advantages and disadvantages so make sure you research any specific language to be certain what it's good at and what it's not.

Agreed. I initially learnt to code with Scratch and while it is easy to use, what I learnt was almost completely inapplicable to proper programming.

I ended up trying something called CodeCombat (it's very expensive now so it's no longer a must-have in my books) and it taught me a huge number of useful programming and problem-solving techniques for Python that were great once I tried out applying my skills to my own programming problems. You could choose another language or learn in a different way, but regardless Python is great for beginners because of its readibility and lack of complex syntax requirements.
