Maybe I can't check on my laptop but assuming it is I'll be adding snowy mountains to my map, so when the update comes out its already done.
since they're tweaking how snow on mountains work later
Why do some people make unplayable maps?
If you have a laptop, you can turn on experimental mode on the worldbox desktop version and you can have a tile for snow mountains there, those DONT melt
Ok, so I use Gimp and then convert my maps through an image-to-map converter. The tiles that you're talking about are they the same as the frozen mountain/frozen hill tiles? Or are they some exclusive tile only found in the exp version?
Exclusive tiles I think
Damned, well thank you for letting me know about those, I'll use those in the future for some of my smaller maps.
They want to make artwork?
Idk why
“To sand, or not to sand; that is the question.” -Abraham Lincoln. So I ask upon my fellow worldbox players. Do you like sandy beaches on your continent sized landmass or kept only for smaller zoomed in portions?
how do i download the maps on pc
Only way to make permanent snow is editing map.wbax
or a decompressed map.wbox to have
mountains:snow_block
or
hills:snow_block
Hmm wait what happens if i do stuff without the colon i wonder...
I hate the new Android 11 update
I can't access the WorldBox folder anymore
I'm still working on it though
IT FREAKING WORKED
WOOOOO
It's a great map
And you actually use sand instead of just arcane sand
Yeah
Ya
It depends on the territory
#⭐starboard message
#🌐map-downloads and #🌐✔cool-maps seem to not be listed on the starboard whitelist.
what mod did this again?
Starboard could be a great way to show which map makers are worthy of map creator role
Arcane sand looks way better then normal sand
Ehh
It depends on what you're going for
Sand has cactus
And if you use it next to water it becomes the coast biome and grows palm trees
It's difficult for a civ to start out in the middle of a normal sand desert, but that's not the case with arcane because there's a good source there
I want my deserts to actually be a challenge
While I agree color wise yes with the limited color palette for natural colors..
Gotta use all that we can
We have a lot of colors for forests, but only three for sandy areas
Sand, arcane sand plains, and arcane sand forest
@last cloud POLYTOPIA MENTIONED

How did this get done?
There's a mod
All it does is squish the landmass and keep the sprites in the same place relative to the map
Still looks great though
Well what’s the mod?
How am I supposed to download the maps and import it to the game?
Alright thanks
You can't on iOS

~map
Darn
-map
Dang
Then what do I do that on
I forgot the command
Specific versions of android, and steam
Darn
@olive scroll what mod do you use for building and tile placement
And how do you make units not make more roads and buildings in ur map
Collectionmod
Okay, also do you plan on making (or have you made) an iceberg map with custom cities like arcanum haven
Damn, I'll have to make a sever suggestion
Cause arcanum haven is huge
Yo dream stan
Oh sure 😊
Real
@last cloud cool map!
You do realize that most people (intentionally, I'm quite sure) don't even have reaction perms in #🌐✔cool-maps , right?
(I don't)
didn't know it👽
Also, how did you make it to where buildings too close to eachother don’t get destroyed?
Is there an aot map?
For special buildings like castes or barracks, you need to put atleast only 1-2 or else they'll destroy the other one cuz they do not need it
Same with statues, one village only allows one of each statue design, so if there are two similar, one will be destroyed
And if you placed enough houses, it would reach the limit house of a village so they won't build new houses anymore, unless you turned on the unlimited housing
And houses have different area size. If you built another on their area they'll be destroyed.
You can watch my Arcanum Haven city timelapse
#🎬worldbox-content message
can sombody make this
looks cool, ill try tmrw
@rocky finch cool map
Damn that's a cool Minecraft seed
If any of you are willing to. please give some feedback or ideas about terrain of my next map posted in Wb screenshots cause no image perms.
Thanks!
Oh, he didn't send the picture of the map. He just sent the picture he used in the image conversion.
Watcha think of this
If you own a PC, you can install maps on iOS as described in this guide: #1213490166023331850 message .
Otherwise, if you only have your iOS device, it's impossible to install maps on iOS because the operating system refuses to give you access to the game files that you'd need to insert the map into.

@sleek wadi
Fun fact! The iosmaps method was posted some years back in this channel and nobody cared
Why are you pinging me again with that?
took til somebody else figuring it out in 2024 to spread it
cause yes
It's been here since 2021 and nobody noticed or remembered
A few months ago Android blocked the ability to access the data folder for "privacy"
But I already found out how to bypass it
It's probably Android 12, I forgot the number
Yeah that's what android 11 be known for
Easy enough to bypass tho
Yeah
It's so stupid
As for android 14 + said built in files app only way to bypass besides usb debugging
Well the files that are truly inaccessible be the root only stuff
Anyway, I'm going to make a map or two
aight
It looks 🔥🔥
But preferrably you would wanna make the coast rocky if you're going with this style and be realistic
But ehhhhh. It dosent need to be realistic to look good tbh
Maps are artwork afterall, ty!
@grim bolt 👽
Jumpscare
i did get jumpscared yes
there is none lol
(I'm not a mod)
wait since when arent you mod?
never releasied
Ok, new map.
It's been a while since I made one and it's a different style than I usually do.
I'd like feedback if possible.
Hmm
I should have done rivers
True
I always forget those, but they make naval invasions much more dangerous
And it looks better, plus there's water in case there's a fire
@midnight kite first map maker to make it to the starboard
I feel honored
next is AOT paradise island map
LESSS GOOO
I'm making a map too after a 2 month long hiatus because of technical difficulties and school
same with me
i just hope by god the update releases in time so i can add biomes to it
@polar oasis can you explain why you dislike the map so I can make my next ones better?
Looks like this for now
Nice shape though
Are the islands large enough to support villages?
Do you use the debug feature?
It's called City places I think. It shows a blue box wherever villages are able to be made.
I use it to make sure the smaller islands I make are large enough to support villages.
Never knew it lol
It's really useful and I really like it.
For example, I do not know if this island is big enough to support a village. So I go into the debug menu and select City Places. Then I could see it's either not aligned properly or it's too small.
No matter what, they are not able to make a village there.
@sleek wadi tysm!
I spent a while messing around with the debug menus
The yellow lines show what that village is colonizing.
hold on i try
And the red lines show that specific town's target
When a village grows it begins looking around for a free City Place nearby to colonize
It doesn't care if it can't reach it at this point, either by mountains or water.
You could see this Green village trying to colonize this island but can't reach it because it doesn't have it's boat.
The most interesting thing, it wastes time trying to colonize something it can't reach.
And if they're in a war with their boat being used, they are unable to colonize other places by sea
There's also the setting in the debug menu, that allows you to have the zoomed in sprites while you're zoomed further.
It's really laggy with a lot of sprites on screen, but it could get really nice pictures.
I'll send an example of this, hold on
Normally, you need to be zoomed in this much to see the sprites. However if you use the UseCameraAspect setting, you're able to be farther out and still see the detail.
Here are two example pictures
Map by Mr Slime
Do you guys know where to find Image-to-map?

@harsh musk
How did you make your villages all clustered up like that?
Whenever I have kingdoms all of the village houses are extremely spread out
anyone have a map of the US with all the states?
just search up united states in #🌐✔cool-maps or #🌐map-downloads -w- not hard
@plain socket self upvote
it’s not that deep
Ok, still interesting
Now, if it's a self star just to get on the starboard, that'll be worse.
so can you tell me how you made your villages like that?
@broken haven
In the message beneath the one you replied to
ah so mr slime was the one who made the villageS?
how do we download a map and put it on our game?

- you will be showed the "app info" screen after clicked the "Files" application, find the three dots button,
- After you see the three dots button, click the three dots button and then if it has an "uninstall updates" option there, make sure to choose the option (wait until the uninstalling process is done and completed to avoid a mistake),
- Now open the third-party application (File Manager) and allow it to manage files,
- Find the "Android" folder and open it, then open the data folder,

Current progress, do the shapes look realistic?
Love the coastlines, but I'm gonna drop some science to perhaps answer your q. Realistic Coastline Shapes come from a variety of factors. Smooth coastlines are often subject to tropic storms weathering the coast, while more jagged(like some in the picture) are a result of glacier movements eroding tearing the land as they move. TBH don't worry too much about how the coastlines look unless you're going for a large planet-sized map or realism, just enjoy making the map.
Also, it should be mentioned closer poles typically mean a more jagged coast, while closer to the equator is more smooth. This is not concrete however, Volcanic or Tectonic forces can cause a more jagged coast despite the latitude.
Hey you know I was reposting for styder cause his posts were getting old but I forgot to check the maps before reposting it so that's why you got random maps.

@chilly trail
Yo is there a way to increase map size?
Does it require a mod or messing with some files?
Or both?
Option 1. Use image conversion.
Only works well with just grass and basic terrain if using #🔁map-conversion
Also recommended to remove buildings vegetation etc if you don't want their sprites to be converted into the map.
For more biome options use the image2map mod or some other [converter](#🌐map-discussion message)
For the mod gonna have to resize the preview.png of a map to the desired size.
Now the file altering method
Use ~decode and ~encode command as seen in #1224037441984528517
Though resizing doing that is pain without doin code
Thanks
Candy biomes doesn't really bend with anything
but you can try having enchanted and candy together
Or have a seperate island for it
Lemon goes well with plains, enchanted
for a realistic world, you might want to have candy with Frost biome at the poles
and lemon can be in the tropical zone
near swamp, jungles and savannas
What's the consensus on corrupted biome though? I mean its nice for variety but I feel whenever added it cripples that sector of the map indefinitely.
Have it in small areas attached to infernal OR blend it with swamp
Or have it near mountains
The foothills

Start with an image of something you want to aim for, convert that into a map the size you want, clean it up.

Is there a better way to convert maps into wbox? The Image to map mod is difficult to get results. Sometimes it works other times it doesn't.
wip
Looks good
Dunno
I know the python converter exists but I cannot get it running.
Why not?
python map converter
#🌐map-discussion message
So the one I modified. I changed it so it doesn't need an additional config file. So you're just changing the code directly to what u want.
_ _
I provided instructions on how to run on android
As for pc recommend searching up how to install python, installing Pillow, and how to run .py files
_ _
Welp for windows, justi install python from microsoft store or website
Then open command prompt and enter
pip install Pillow
then in file explorer go to where the python file is. enter cmd into the file path bar, and then simply do
python filename.py
for filepath input easiest to just do name.png and put it in same location of python file
as for output something like this: C:\Users\randomname\Downloads

@full spoke
Ty friend !
huh even with pc converting this https://gamebanana.com/mods/467589 still takes like half an hour or more to convert on pc lmao
Who the fuck playing on this
only those with idk $3k gaming pcs or more?
dunno
it was never meant to be played in it's entirety anyways lmao
how many hours would it take for one person to populate the entire map
honestly it may just end up crashing the game due to hitting some limit
True
What i don't like is how boki made it a photoshop file instead of .png
so had to wait a bit before even able to run it into the converter in the firstplace
png file itself if ever wanna do anything with it https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/576430721133051921/1249083030711046174/boki.zip
After going on a whole ass side quest I've finally got it working. BUT mushroom low replaced grass high, while grass high replaced mushroom low. Also whenever I drop seeds it inverts the tile so drop grass seeds onto grass low the tiles will turn into grass high. I am amazed, flabbergasted, bewildered, and an inch away from insanity.
yeah reason for that is to prevent biome overgrowth even if its on
hence why in my modified version i made the boolean use_permanent_biomes
Mm map trick shenanigans
Welp, that sucks, but why is the mushroom and forest swapped, I'm using the right aco
right what?
ok can u post the .py file ur using
cause have made changes to my post overtime
sure I'll dm you with it since no perms yet, also just noticed its disregarding my config (eg ages).

oh so ur using the original sea pickle one?

Maybe, your terrain and biome placement can play a role into how your ocean floor looks. Take example your previous map.
It is unique tho, I’d roll with it if it’s what you like
I like to do avoid realism while doing ocean floor, the way I did it last time made it aesthetically pleasing
and I love that
Harness that. That’s what makes your maps unique and of its own kind.
It looks like it was made by something
Like a god
Or an entity
the eldritch ocean monsters be becoming the land itselt
Very nice my man
@storm elk what command do you use to decode a .map file?
Thanks man
@finite remnant #🌐map-downloads message is this a report of American toad’s map
Yes, it looks good! but when you start playing on the map, you won't pay attention to such details anymore
Well, true
Does anyone have a map with all the features?
the original map was without biomes, I added them
I have a question, did we must to pay premium for have a map on Android ?
How big iceberg?
supposed to be nobody, but some madman probably tried anyways
9×9
in terms of pixels 576×576
I already converted the photoshop file into a .png and then converted that into half scale due to max size being 256
if anyone actually manages to run this map, they deserve a cookie
The maps in download and stuff is in the first thing right?
first thing for what
ok still dunno what first thing means here
ok so how map sizes work is
1×1 is 64×64 pxiels
2×2 is 128×128 pixels
etc
yeah that's iceberg size
Thx
Nope
If ya know what ya doin can even get non-premium locked creatures en such by editing map.wbox :P
definitely more of a pain tho
👽👽👽
@knotty hamlet congrats on map creator role! 🎉

A modloader that can be used on games like WorldBox to loads specific mods on PC. If you have any questions on how to use it, I'd suggest asking in #🔧modding-talk , as this channel is for maps, not mods.
Any idea on why there's a volcano on the center of the map when you first start the game?
does anyone have a map of the greater antilles
Anybody have a map of a lobster?
did you ever convert it?
proud to say my newer version took down the monster in about 30 seconds
well, uh, maybe anyways. I dont have the specs to check other than it produced the map file
which makes it roughly 60 times faster or more if you're saying it took 30 minutes
decoded map looks like it converted, no way of knowing though. That text file is like 1.35 gb in size though holy
thankfully the compressed map is more around 40 mb
next step would be to optimize the game to an absurd level 😭
Good for us how much duplication there is to get rid of during compression with such a file as a tiles only map.wbox.
it matters probably little on small maps
yeah
python map converter
#🌐map-discussion message

~decode
Decoded file map-1.wbox (attachment 1).
oh that's convient
read the message its replying to
ohh the earth map lmao
Yeah took straight 2 hours to convert on this phone
Tried running the same python on my pc and didn't seem much faster if at all
Well don't think it'll ever trigger an autosave if someone manages to run the map
that or crash trying lol
Why is the autosave feature of worldbox uncompressed map files anyways...
hmm rand a 30 by 30 map of my random vomit map generating script and here's the sizes
have a source image for the top one?
File map.wbox (attachment 1) isn't a map.wbox file, skipping it!
it'd probably never load the map
you'd think if you have a really expensive rig you'd open this stuff, but the amount of resources tends to scale kind of exponentially
even then you might just be gatekept by worldbox's loading times itself, and it still take a really absurd amount of time and lag a bunch
even with proper resources
¯_(ツ)_/¯
ah I used files I called jawbreakers to test this
though mine was created through an image
25x25
roughly 1.5 seconds to convert, which is a bit higher than a normal map
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/535208693478981632/1249255097955913801/preview.png
Map that randomizes the tileArray directly
95% all biomes
5% ocean hills mountains
Neat
Welp one last edit to Sea pickles map generation script. Actually making the output filepath work
Same as the old ~convert command of AMP, it just doesn't completely suck now.
You do ~convert TARGET_SIZE with the image you want to convert attached.
And if the image and target size small enough, AMP turns it into a map.wbox.
Yeah, quite sure it does.
Thank you
You're welcome!
You can't do it in #🔁map-conversion too?
@desert carbon whats dithering
I CAN MAKE MY MAPS BIGGER YOO
i prayed for times like this
thank you
Adds basically every tile in the game to the tile pool, helpful for map appearance but horrible for playability.
If I use worldbox preview image it shouldn't be much of a difference right
The tool that the conversion is based on can be found in the pinned messages of this channel, you can see the hex coedes being used there!
In a usecase like that, you're gonna want to keep it off.
Alright
Oh, the gloop message.
Lemme use it once tho
It just helps with accuracy when you've got images like what igniz tried.
Yeah, AMPs converter is based on her tool.
Yeah I see
If you enable the according options in the conversion menu, it'll be used, yes.
What are the different variations of Deep ocean? Road, Fuse, and Field
Is that just depth?
Hmm, no

Tiles in WorldBox consist of two layers, a main tile and a top tile. Things like roads are top tiles, so they effectively go on top of other tiles. In this palette, the tile names are written in a format of main_tile:top_tile.
Snow is a top tile that can be played oveer hills or mountains.
Ok
tiles get very weird when zoomed in lol
Zoomed out it looks the same
Except being kinda smooth if you convert smaller maps
Well, yeah. If you convert the map to a size greater than the original pixel count, you're gonna have several new pixels representing one single old pixel.
ye
goes wrong
new update should fix it so we can have snow again
without it immediately melting
(wb update)
Fair, it should at least be a world law or something like that.
It seems like when I talked about how inaccurate the map conversion was and posted an update, actually made the admins update the converter.
nah its been broke for some time
hopefully eventually ill have the c++ version I made put on a bot and it'll be a bit faster
sounds like discord.py is being a lag mess
but it should do for quite some time, because waiting for next update 😂
How do i add a map file to my game
technically can place snow_block on top of any base tile but it'd just look like a mountain
same goes for snow_sand
ice
grass_high
etc
hmm haven't tried doing something likee sand:mountains tho...
@desert carbon would it be possible to have an option to disable using unlivable blocks like tumor, and ice sand?
And only use the standard biomes?
yes
Please
while making big maps tumor and stuff gets added to mountain edges
and all sorts of stuff
I think an option to only use the standard biomes, sand, dirt, mountains, water, and wasteland would be really helpful. Maybe lava as well
The current converter already has stuff like lava and tumor, ice sand, lava, etc, split into separate options.
(Update that happened like 3 hours ago.)
Also, there's a dm_convert_palette command which you can use to make a specific selection and then get a list of all tiles of that selection and the color codes they're mapped to.
There's some changes to the color palette that make it different from the one in the pins of this channel, so I figured that a command like that is now needed and useful.
You're welcome! If there's any further suggestions you or anyone else here has for the map conversion tool, feel free to ping me or another AMP dev and we'll consider it! ^.^
make a balkan map
No, you make a Balkan map

I can make one pretty easily, but I don't want to
How to add map in game
How to access worldbox data folder on android 11 or above:
- Download a third-party application like "File Manager" from google play,
- Now go to your phone’s "settings" application, after that find/search an factory system application called "Files" (has a darker blue background with a big white folder in the center of the icon), then click it,
- you will be showed the "app info" screen after clicked the "Files" application, find the three dots button,
- After you see the three dots button, click the three dots button and then if it has an "uninstall updates" option there, make sure to choose the option (wait until the uninstalling process is done and completed to avoid a mistake),
- Now open the third-party application (File Manager) and allow it to manage files,
- Find the "Android" folder and open it, then open the data folder,
- You'll see some popup, touch "ok"/"yes" and also touch the "use this folder" button at bottom without opening any files that are showing,
- If you have succeeded, the app will now have access to android file and can enter the saves folder in "com.mkarpenko.worldbox" folder.

@tawdry vine
@desert carbon what do you think about making it have height map compatibility?
Changing different values of white and black into different tiles?
Not very interested, sounds like it'd take a major rewrite of the converter to match the tiles up properly.
What would the point even be btw?
So you can use pictures like this
Height maps are pretty popular when making custom maps for games
Black is water, then it uses things like close ocean, field and forest dirt tiles, then ends at mountains and snow
Something like this
It'll be a lot easier to use things like this
It's just something to think about.
If you can give me a list of what grey tones (hex code) should belong to what ingame tiles, I can add it.
Ok
On a semi related note, the map size limit for the converter has been increased to 50x50.
i dont know how to make one but its ok
Deep ocean: #000000
Middle ocean: #222222
Shallow Ocean: #343434
Sand: #666666
Plains: #787878
Forest: #999999
Hills: #cbcbcb
Mountain: #dddddd
Snow block: #ffffff
I just tried my best to split it up equally
👍
I'll probably add it as an option in the converter at some point today, will ping you when I do so that you can test.
We might need to shift it back a little bit
Because black and the first two on the left are water tiles
Blue is water, brown is the livable sections, and grey are mountains
Feel free to make changes, I haven't started adding it yet tbh and I can also change it out quite quickly if needed.
I'd like to test it if it's added
It should be live now.
ok
Yeah, the values do need to be shifted
That looks really nice though
I'll try to work on values that'll work
I wonder if I could make the values be split into
Water (subdivided further into three sectios)
Sand
Plains
Forest
Hills
Mountain
Ice block
Gimme a minute
Updated
Deep ocean: #000000
Middle ocean: #0F0F0F
Shallow Ocean: #1D1D1D
Sand: #2B2B2B
Plains: #555555
Forest: #7F7F7F
Hills: #AAAAAA
Mountain: #D4D4D4
Snow block: #FFFFFF
@desert carbon
This should work better
I used a hex calc so it should be more accurate as well
I changed it in AMP, feel free to test!
I have a theory
Key isn't a human
She comes from a civilization far advanced than ours
👽
I just need to change out the color codes, restarting the server to have the changes literally takes longer than actually performing the changes with something like this. xD
A normal human would take 30 minutes for checking the ping
IwI
👀
I'mma try this
I wonder if it gets better or worse when also using dithering.
I'll try that
Mixed feelings
@desert carbon
Yeah, I don't like I like it a lot, personally.
It's an interesting idea with how it gives you gradients to play around wih.
Zoomed out, it looks great
But alone that same gradient aspect makes it feel outlandish to me, as if it doesn't belong into WorldBox. xD
Yeah
Falls apart though at latest when zooming in and you see the individual dots.
Ya
Still, this is incredible
Now it's a lot easier to make detailed playable maps
It takes a lot less cleanup than the color converter does
I'm glad to have helped make the process easier in that regard!
Actually, are there other converters that already had this feature or is AMP the first one?
(For WorldBox in particular, obviously.)
👀
That do be quite fancy. 👀
I wonder what will happen if I use a color image
I think that the "brightness" of a pixel would effectively be the average of the R, G, and B.
#🔁map-conversion yeah, seems like it
So if you have e.g. FF0000 (pure red) as a pixel, it'd presumably be treated as 555555.
Yeah
Yeah, the image also shows quite nicely how more pure colors are treated as darker than mixed ones.
I wonder if it'll be worth it making a height map converter but it doesn't use sand

But instead goes straight from shallow ocean to plains
@grim bolt opinion
Yes.
Can you test 30x30 handridge for me
Send me the map.wbox file and tell me more specifically what I should be testing.
What is human made
In the converter, that's stuff like roads and fields.
oh
@desert carbon can you make a second heightmap version but just replace the sand value with plains, deleting the old plains value?
Close ocean [hex value1]
Sand [hex value2]
Plains [hex value3]
Forest [hex value4]
But into:
Close ocean [hex value1]
Plains [hex value2]
Forest [hex value4]
So the gap between water and land is the same, but the gap between plains and forest is larger
I want you to give screenshots of areas near mountains, I wanna see that the paths I made would still work or naw
Just the middle one would work
So one that just gets rid of sand?
Yeah
But the values are important to change because otherwise water will take up even more of the map
i've just seen you with the asteroid role wtf
Hot potato in general
i'm a worldbox stan
Ok, so fun story:
I kinda didn't want to add it as just a different type of height map since that you make its functionality ridiculously specific, so I instead opted for a no_sand option, which can also be of use for normal conversion.
This idea proceeded to snowball into like 4 more converter options.

With this it'll be easier to make real world maps
Oh, wow, that's neat.
Anyways, the new converter stuff is available.
I'mma test it
you should be able to map heightmap stuff in photoshop too
to the worldbox color palette
Yeah
i'd imagine its how the higher quality world maps are made
Oh well, at the very least, I'd assume that having it built into AMP makes it more accessible.
This'll be very interesting
@desert carbon do the options just disable a specific things from being used?
I'm asking if that's it
There's also options for disabling default tiles like sand/soil now.

Yeah.
combinations is what plagues me on my map generator stuff
The sand one also does the shift if height map if that option is selected.
I only have like 4 sets because I had to spend 18 forevers to make it easy to swap stuff around
Oh ok, thanks
damn
@desert carbon
looks great
This is freaking awesome
New map making technology is like a revolution
Deserved
Not exactly a downside
Can't believe that a change as simple getting rid of color options would make generation so much better.
I didn't know that I'd get this good of results
It looks like an amazing handmade map
i was thinking the opposite lul
looks like a great satellite map
In, like, 2 days, AMPs map conversion has gone from being a joke to being (probably, idk for sure tbh) the best publicly available option.
Someone pin this
I want to easily point people to it if they want a map of a specific place
reminds me of Minecraft but more ocean honestly
Gonna want to ask pope or instructed, since they're the map managers.
Yeah
Instructed still hasn't replied to my messages
it needs proper height alignment which I havent done, so that its lower to higher soil
We're cooked👽
oh no
its neat you can load maps this big these days
Hmm gonna try making my own map generation using only arrays lol
Did you instruct him to ghost you or something?
holy
i wasn't even gonna talk because this isn't my type of channel but now that you said this
angr
xD
the new bot is the 🐐
This too
cheese
AMP plot twist of the year. No one could've seen it coming, not even me 5 days ago.
lmao
Yes, it's the south pole of the moon after all
ah
how all projects go
at least for my adhd brain
I'ma see what this screenshot gets me
I was literally not shutting up about how AMPs map logic is a mess and I wouldn't ever dare touching it. xD
oh you repurposed the code as an elevation map?
That was the point when I asked Key
image2map has a new height_map option, basically just replaced the default color palette with a highly limited black&white one.
Ohh
Somehow is really good for map generation. xD
Welp imma modify the code I have and see what happens lol
dithering timeee
For simplicity sake just gonne assign deep ocean to mountain values evenly split upon the black to white gradiant
lmaooo
It can't be working this well
The issue with that, is then the water takes up a disproportionate amount of the map
Many height maps are made so the black is at sea level
We made it too good.
Fair enough
That's what my updated hex values tried to fix
I tweak around with the hex values so I can have all da ocean
You get things like this
Ok first 60 hex values gonna be sea
oki
That's why I grouped it like
Water
Sand
Plains
Forest
Mountain
Then divided the water into three groups and mountain into two
It probably works the best that way
It makes sure that there's more livable space and keeps in line the way height maps work

Realistic maps ftw
my version
You had sand enabled
yup
ye
next step is using a biome or climate map to add biomes :P
hm
The issue is, there's no standardized colors for that
yeah have to manually code it in or have code automatically detect range given a legend
Everything practically needs to be custom made to fit the right colors, which we need to do anyway
¯_(ツ)_/¯
That seems unnecessarily complicated though
Y'all are actually trying to minimize the amount of map making that has be done ingame. xD
Yes
:3
UwU
Ok gonna go get a elevation and climate map of an area
I think the best way to do it is to use the elevation map as the base map, then you look at the climate map when you're adding the biomes in
With how much you seem to know about thiese things, how come that you're not a map creator?
definitely better off using the climate idea I have for random map generation
I don't consistently make maps
The maps I do make I don't bother uploading or even saving sometimes
On the other hand look at this

~brightness 2
Brightness of image imageundefined.png enhanced!
I mean, it feels cheap in a way
And all of it created by an arbitrary mix of two colors.
I can now make maps that are another level of quality with less than 15 minutes of work, that anyone can learn how to do in two minutes
It doesn't feel right posting them and getting map maker
Fair. You're literally just getting the height maps off of Google rn, right?
I think I might've just done the map community equivalent of what the 0.14 trait mod template was for the modding community on accident.
You need to create a character first. Use _start
Omg shut up you piece of garbage no one cares about your worthless opinion.

(I like this bot a lot. xD)
But you see what I mean right? I can make super detailed maps that require no cleanup at all, and they look incredible
No stray pixels, just add biomes
Yeah, and the barrier of entry is insanely low.
Not happening. xD
No idea tbh.
Probably treats them as black or something like that.
If I had to guess.
even with the adjustment still all mountain lol
Yeah, the scale is too small if you include ocean data
😔
beard
We making web pages in worldbox now
I might try messing around with negative heightmaps
Oh can definitely use reshade to make ur browsing experience look like that
IwI
it's just restraining the colors of pixels
Is there a normal version
😭
This looks incredibly cursed. xD
I'm not bothering to save any of these because it's so easy to make
elevation maps always look so damn good 😋
What are the white tiles
Snow blocks
mountains:snow_block?
They don't melt
I see
wait snow block can just be a single tile?
I think
Milk oceans
@desert carbon can you explain
It has to be mountain first and then snow right
My understanding is they are snow on mountains, but they don't melt
That's what I use.
I see
imma see if it's the kinda tile that's reliant to have another on underneath it
Worldbox featuring mandela catalogue
yeah it is
can't just have "snow_block"
it just becomes soil_low
67different color values I can have...
Time to order from darkest to lightest :3
And see what that gets me
I forgot how much having hills limit the possible village spots
Each blue square is a spot a village can form
(village places debug option my beloved. I use it all the time while making maps)
It tells me if an island is large enough or in the right chunk to support a village
oki
yum
Ngl, the most trippy use I've seen so far of dithering is with height maps.
Yeah, that's kinda weird
I'm genuinely in a love-hate relationship with it tbh. xD
Yeah
@desert carbon do the mountain values need to be changed, or do you think they're fine?
I would like to tweak it more, but if it ain't broke I don't want to fix it
it took half an hour qwq
I honestly think they're good enough, and I donÄt want to do further testing with it rn because I'm soon heading off to get some sleep.
yes :3
I wanted sleep
The answers are more important. IwI
ugh fine
Oh dear, my condolences, it's only 11PM for me. xD
It's only 2:30 in the afternoon here
India vs USA match kept me awake till 1

Man, I thought that the height maps were just gonna be a small fun QoL feature.
you can't ignore the greed of sentient species
I won't be surprised if they become the main way people make maps.
Especially with how good they look
@desert carbon it looks like the list cuts off
Map managers gotta look for OC maps carefully now
