I have a sub-idea. A few new tools: Form Nation, Form Alliance, Declare War, and Incite Civil War. the way they'd work is simple:
form nation: allows you to group villages of the same race together into the same faction.
form alliance: allows you to forge alliances between factions of any race (i.e. orcs along side humans, elves along side dwarves, etc.)
declare war: causes either a village or faction to attack another village or faction, regardless of race. (i.e. humans v.s. humans) this causes the ai of the warring citizens to prioritize moving out in groups to raid the enemy over building. there could also be a "Declare Peace" tool to counter it.
incite civil war: causes a faction to break in two and instantly declare war on each other.
you could also name the factions, or have them be randomly generated.

level 4: expanded village capacity, up to 25 without spamming. basic firearms, slightly better armor, giving a 50% chance to give a 2nd extra hit before dying. slightly increased chance of "bandit suicide" method, but they will not do it if it kills their allies.
level 5: 30 village capacity, revolvers or similar weapons, guaranteed 2nd hit armor. removal of bandit-esque suicides, instead replaced with a rare chance to bomb enemies with a basic bomb.
and so on and so forth, until we reach a point where the majority of the worldbox's population can be destroyed in a nuclear war.
