The only way you can have an "unusable" gun is if you have, let's say, a VPO-316, with a mag loaded with 7.62 PS and .366.

look up a map to learn extracts, i would start on customs

The rule of thumb is... if spawn on the far side of the map, your extracts will be on the opposite side...
Most of the extracts in the middle of maps have requirements, such as them being open, or you needing money to take a car out

Ammo is one of the largest money makers on those stashes, every time I’ve run it, I make at least 40k off the ammo in the stashes alone

Pull those maps up on your phone or on a separate monitor, and do an offline raid and find the extractions.

after you hit next on your map selection, enable offline mode... anything you take into offline mode cannot be lost, it's like playing practice mode
So you can practice killign scavs, looting, learning maps that way

yeah i played my first game offline and survived the time limit and it counted that as a win. Tried that in my second game online and it was a loss

As a noob you wont repair many limbs
you'll just deal with it
if your legs are black you need painkilers to run
if you run on black legs for long enough you can start bleeding and WILL take damage
but if you get in a fire fight while your legs are black, you wont be able to run at all UNLESS youre on painkillers

your extracts are gonna be on the exact opposite of the map, that will definitely be open
Jackets are always worth checking
they can spawn keys which are used for quests, and unlocking rooms with fancy item spawns
weapon boxes are worth checking
PCs are worth checking
safes, valuables, weapons mods...
you'll learn over time where the 'best' loot spawns are, but literally almost anything can spawn almost anywhere... always pay attention to any metal shelving... a lot of random items spawn on shelving through the maps... any large wooden crates have loose loot spawns on top of them

Just know what type of bullets you're using... You dont HAVE TO buy the best, but if you take in weaker bullets know that youre going to want to avoid most fights with players
