@south bluff my personal fav for a relatively safe with a good chance of getting some good loot is just running ground caches at night on shoreline and interchange. Fairly boring, yes, and some people here would argue it wont teach you the game, but i've had some insanely profitable runs. Think the best i ever had was - for flea market prices - about 1.3 million from just ground caches and a few pieces of loot inbetween. But you can expect to consistently run 250-500k every time and with the exception of a scav that's a bit out of his movement area or the uncommon PMC doing the same run as you do, it's almost void of conflict which means you require little investment - get a scav backpack and a reasonably decent rig (like a triton) and dont pick any fights and just run, its fairly safe.

@dense wadi depends on the caliber, but SP used to be pretty OP pre-wipe, 556x45 is generally very good too, m855A1 is a good one due to the low recoil and high pen/dmg, 7.62 PS and LPS are the best bang-for-your-buck you can get.

i cheesed my way to lvl 10 by hiding on maps until everyone left to mop up scavs or dehydrate/ de-energize and go through 20 medkits while i hided near my exfil, guaranteed 4k exp per mission.
unless you're actually decent at the game, this is the fastest way, but it's stupid tbh.

How am I expected to get better at this game when 99% of games are me getting destroyed by high-level players in milliseconds with hardly a chance to react or assess what is going on? I know this is a rant but I'm legitimately asking, because while I understand the skill curve is steep as hell, I can't even figure out where to take my next steps

Don't just passively learn the game.
Learn the spawns, the high value areas, where PMCs usually travel, hiding spots, spots that people camp, loot stashes, the routes to take to avoid conflict etc.

Not very many huge gear players go to customs, I’ve played there in all parts of wipe and only towards the end are you finding the big guys. Plus every map has them, it’s beginner friendly because it’s easy to know where you are and how to get around because of the easy to learn landmarks
