if you have m855a1 for example, a gen4 will typically hold about 4 bullets on a full gen4

as in the first 4 rounds don't do damage

because the chance of penetrating is low

BUT

once the gen4 gets about 30 durability

the m855a1 rounds chance to penetrate gen4 goes up

100% (68/68) gen4 = 8% chance to be penetrated by m855a1

30/30 gen4 (30/68) has about 50% chance to be penetrated

and then quickly after about 80% chance

so what do you prefer, a bullet penetrating you for 8% chance or 50-80%

imo it's huge

in case of a zhuk-6a (tier 6) it's even worse. a full zhuk will "block" as in 0% chance to be penetrated by m855a1 on the first 4 rounds.

but if the zhuk only has like 20/20 dura, the bullet has 80% chance

so it's technically not even class 6 anymore at that point

because tier 4 will do a better job than a 20/20 zhuk

it's technically a 30/68 gen4 (thus broken and less effective)

The arm protection is helpful in factory due to the amount of scavs and players with shittier bullets

Questing is good XP and level 5 is super important because that's when the game really begins as you get access to the flea market

You will die and die due to lack of experience not gear. Experience. It will require persistence and commitment. You need to learn maps, scav behavior, PMC behavior, what is good vs. bad ammo. Practice OFFLINE mode, with scavs on, at Customs. Try to make it from spawn to exit 10 times. IF you can do this 50% of the time then you are ready for online. Meanwhile use your scav at Interchange to get loot and learn the map.
