New gas station is a bit like the bottleneck of customs to me. In offline it pretty much always spawn the scav boss for me, and that shit can be tough. I tend to run an assault rifle/carbine or something like a mosin so there are different places to get a vantage on it and scout out to see whats going on before I go in.
east spawn has some rocks to the NE-ish of gas station you can look in from and pop some shots, west side has the railway bridge right before gas station for some concrete barrier cover and elevated position for a better vantage as you shoot

@cunning pilot Upgrade Workbench in Hideout. Then go to flea and examine every weapon and weapon part. That will give you full functionality of the EDIT PRESET function. You can swap parts in and out at will and the parts do not need to be in stash to use this feature as this is a “virtual build.” If you like what you made you can “save” it with a custom name and it will allow you to buy all the parts with the Assemble puzzle piece. Use cog wheel in buy parts section to determine if you only buy from traders or include flea offers.

Both of your experiences are common for new people in EFT.
First thing to do is RESET EXPECTATIONS. Doesn’t matter how much or how well you do in other shooters. This is a knowledge game. You will die and die due to lack of experience not gear. Experience. It will require persistence and commitment. You need to learn maps, scav behavior, PMC behavior, what is good vs. bad ammo.

From a distance. A face shot with no visor will almost always kill.

Upgrade Workbench in Hideout. Then go to flea and examine every weapon and weapon part. That will give you full functionality of the EDIT PRESET function. You can swap parts in and out at will and the parts do not need to be in stash to use this feature as this is a “virtual build.” If you like what you made you can “save” it with a custom name and it will allow you to buy all the parts with the Assemble puzzle piece. Use cog wheel in buy parts section to determine if you only buy from traders or include flea offers.

Flax. Noob here working the dorms challenge too. My suggestion is leave that one for a bit and work on others until you’re really comfortable with a certain gun. I have a nice ~60k AK build I like on customs and I’ve been trying to do dorms challenge. It isn’t easy cuz everyone wants the marked room. Either hatchet sprint to it or play slow and cautious. No mid match form running.
