@worthy condor First thing to do is RESET EXPECTATIONS. Doesn’t matter how much or how well you do in other shooters. This is a knowledge game. You will die and die due to lack of experience not gear. Experience. It will require persistence and commitment. You need to learn maps, scav behavior, PMC behavior, what is good vs. bad ammo. Practice OFFLINE mode, with scavs on, at Customs. Try to make it from spawn to exit 10 times. IF you can do this 50% of the time then you are ready for online. Meanwhile use your scav at Interchange to get loot and learn the map.

Scavs spawn with a randomly generated gear set. PMC - you will have to gear up your inventory yourself using Stash

whatever you can extract when playing online (scav or pmc doesn't matter) is yours to keep. When you don't extract you lose everything you have got with you, except the items in your secure container (this applies to PMC only, with the standard edition you will start with a 2x2 secure container).

well basically the main game is playing your PMC. All the PMCs that get matched together start one Raid together at their randomly assigned spawn points.
The Scavengers are basically bots that spawn at different times into the raid.
You have the option to do a scav run which you can think of as controlling one of the bots. You only get to do a scav run every 20 minutes (after dying or extracting)

But when I imagine a tarkov that's been running for two years without wipes and without pscavs it's not just about getting through the basics anymore as a new player. At a certain point the gap will be to high for such a large % that a healthy influx of new players just won't be happening anymore. (I say "won't" but ofc there's a lot of assumptions about a future product that I wouldn't take any bets on in there)

My opinion we will continue to have wipes. If I remember correctly Nikita has hinted at the need for them. The game would suffer without them based on my experiences

@fast rivet Yea not calling you out on the flea thing. I just caution new people to not overuse flea. Many items should be sold to traders as you need to level them up. A lot of items (including tech/hardware) sell just as well to therapist as they do to flea. For ME it's a waste of time to put up weapon parts and that stuff. I break all weapons down and sell to Skier>Mechanic and honestly don't loot weapon parts unless it's an optic or suppressor. I check the flea price vs. therapist for tech/hardware. IF you know how to play and know about traders and know the value of using them then you do you. I am just careful with the new people because a lot of new people overuse flea in my opinion.

@bold kernel I had the same problem , I just sold everything expensive basically because I didn't feel comfortable using it in my raids because I know I wasn't good with the general knowledge of the game , and I would buy some average/cheap guns for my budget and go from there

In my experience you can pretty much sell and buy everything, so I am not that afraid of doing that flea market, you buy stuff as you need them and you sell stuff as you don't wanna use rn
My only exception is with some really really cool guns that I managed to loot from some high level PMCs but I just keep the top 3 guns in my weapon case as a memory lol
