@radiant snow First thing to do is RESET EXPECTATIONS. Doesn’t matter how much or how well you do in other shooters. This is a knowledge game. You will die and die due to lack of experience not gear. Experience. It will require persistence and commitment. You need to learn maps, scav behavior, PMC behavior, what is good vs. bad ammo. Practice OFFLINE mode, with scavs on, at Customs. Try to make it from spawn to exit 10 times. IF you can do this 50% of the time then you are ready for online. Meanwhile use your scav at Interchange to get loot and learn the map.

The number of times you will die wearing a good/great helmet will far outweigh the number of times that it saves you. YES it can save you but many many more times it won’t be a factor in your death or will have failed to protect you. Therefore I don’t spend much $ on helmets.

The bottom line on helmets is you can run them if you want. But keep a note next to PC of the number of times you are wearing one and die due to being shot in a body part that isn't head...or face shot. Then add up all the $ spent on them. Also get a small post it note and count up the number of times it saves you. Compare the two.

When I did the math it worked out for me. It depends on your SR, what map you run, etc. On labs, it won't help. Factory/customs? So many PMC's running shit ammo, it'll save you more than once or twice

I hardly lose money on kit because I run tactecs which usually come back and are easy to repair. And rifles. My kit never exceed 300k and I have a strong survival rate and kills pmcs no problem because I play smarter. Losing the helmet makes you much more aware and easy to spot things.
