Most shotgun shells arent good at armor pen, so they're more effective shooting flesh than armor.

So, the 'leg meta' is for things like Hollow point, like RIP ammo, it does insane damage to flesh, once your leg\arm goes to 0, the damage spreads to other area's near it, like stomech, once that is down it goes to thorax (if thorax goes to zero due to bullet damage, you die) - thus you can get around level 6 armor by essentially sawing a guy's leg off with enough bullets.

If you are level 5 you can get a vepr km 136 from flea for 15k and it does well. You don’t really need armor till you get to a point where you have a gun worth trying to protect

When level 4 became the most common armour to find, both on scavs and PMC the 7.62x39 just underperforms unless you are using BP... and then you're better of using 5.45 or 5.56 for a better overall gun

You can swap parts in and out at will and the parts do not need to be in stash to use this feature as this is a “virtual build.” If you like what you made you can “save” it with a custom name and it will allow you to buy all the parts with the Assemble puzzle piece. A stock Fal isn't very good, got quite high recoil, but still good as a DMR. Fully modded which is quite expensive it's very deadly. Probably one of the best guns in the game
