Killing scavs and looting your kills can offer a lot of xp, also scav runs dont help in any way your main character
extracting also gets you a bonus multiplier....uhh i would suggest going customs and maybe woods for starters
Also every map has hidden stashes if you want to get some average loot in your container to at least make some money before getting into a fight or a ''hot'' place

@spice matrix good tip for new players is to mostly run scav runs, when you're waiting for the timer, play offline pmc and learn the maps, where loot spawns and what the scav behaviour is like

I usually get extraction with a Scav but nearly always get shot with my PMC after 5 minutes of spawning, if it even lasts that long. So now I'm kinda broke with only 1 set of (incomplete) gear that I use to play Offline raids, so I can still practice with the gun I enjoy.

@winter marsh Its enough to defend yourself vs scavs on Shoreline as I havent seen any with armour, and in village they just have pistols or 10 round rifles. Its definitely a compromise, first time I went in I only took a knife and died because I couldnt defend myself. But when I started taking in Makarovs it was enough. The goal was to clean out the village, its grocery store and gas station, then bug out. Purple items are quite common and worth 40-100k each depending what you find
If you want to take something more potent in, then by all means do. Ive become an advocate of buying armour recently which isnt too cheap. So some gear is definitely worth it. But a pistol and sash is cheaper, even if you die, then a rifle and gear

@umbral wasp Always compare flea value to Therapist>Skier>mechanic. You can often sell items to traders for just as much money and maybe more than flea. With traders you increase the "spent" needed to level them, can sell multiple items immediately for immediate payment.

PMC enter in the beginning (how late depends on their server/PC), ai scavs spawn in waves with the first wave being a couple minutes after raid starts. Player scavs can spawn in early (maybe 5-10 minutes after start) all the way up to spawning with only about 18 minutes left.

Workbench and med stuff probably helps the most. I focused on finishing Hideout because it was new and I wanted to do it. I had experience so knew how to make money so the extra expense of Hideout didn't bother me. I don't regret doing it but if you are new I'd say do Workbench and med stuff (with whatever it requires to do it) and don't worry too much about the rest as you are also figuring out how to make money and survive.

However i'd practice the map with Scav first to learn it...or use PMC offline there to learn it.
I recommend offline because this isn't COD or any other shooter you've played. Run and gun sprinting around won't work here. Need to use tactics not just get into spray down fire fights.
