Customs isn't a terrible map to learn on. It has first task, is small enough to get action, and big enough to move around. Run offline for practice til you can deal with scavs.

I can repair an armor vest for like 8k by prapor with a max loss of 2.5 in durability, or for 22k at mechanic with a max loss of 1.5 of durability. When repaired mechanic would do it 0.3 points better. Am I not getting something or is not paying 14k extra a no brainer?

Interchange is the noob friendly money maker, if you avoid certain paths and areas, which you will have to learn, then it's easy money. Afk looting. Being suppressed is helpful.
