Modding is not hard at all even though it seems daunting at first. What I can recommend is

go level your traders at minimum Tier 2

before that, don't bother modding

unless you wanna fiddle around

but tier 2 shouldn't be hard.

you can then go into flea/traders and examine everything

then unlock workbench, put ur weapon in stash. rightclick it -> edit presets and try to see what you can make

you can open the recoil menu in the edit presets that show you how much recoil benefit you get from each upgrade

that's pretty universal on most guns, so you can fiddle aroudn with that

I don't know the situation after 0.12 hit, but a lot of people skipped helmets entirely, unless going with really high-end gear

As most kitted out players gear for one-shot thorax kill

Head/face shots are more useful for non-slug shotguns/pistols

Also, dealing 435 damage (on paper) to someone won't necessarily kill them, as shooting in the arms, for example, will only deal 0.7x damage 😉
