Judging by the fact we're about a week into the events, another week or less.
Unless I'm mistaken, you don't get your container unless you reset your profile @ivory knoll.

That’s because it’s the bullet that does the damage, not the gun. Different guns have different barrels that have different velocity, but an AK-101 and an M4 have the same damage if you’re using the same type of 5.56

Guns are basically preference. Some people like the fast fire rate of the HK, I like the slow firing MDR. It's all personal preference what platform you use to deliver the bullets.

@burnt linden join an lfg channel and say you're new, most people don't mind giving tips and playing some raida with you as wipe is in a week
I suggest you learn the game as much as possible now, since wipe is in a week so when .12 starts you have some basic experience to net you some gear
Learning the game after the wipe is risky per se as you risk losing a lot of gear, and have a lower chance to get it back as your stuck running tozes and scav runs every other game
If anything we could do some raida together and I can show you around, give you some tips and get you some nice gear

Player scav on player scav has been a bit more aggressive this wipe. I've still had some instances when the wiggle is accepted but plenty when I've been shot on sight by another player scav.

as a scav i never shoot other scavs, if they kill me the ai scavs will most likely aggro to them so i'm not really worried. (exception is during prewipe events, everything is fair game then)

you can still get decent armor that will pen level 3, will cost around 100-300 at most on flea depending on the gun. not great right now with everyone running around geared but it still pens faceshields. 7.62x51 or 7.62x54 will pen anything but is more expensive, fortunately most guns that shoot it you wont need a ton of ammo.
vepr that shoots 7.62x39 with ps is a good budget gun, or for more punch go with hunter or mosin/sv-98
even paying flea prices you can have a gun that will kill anyone for under 50-70k including ammo

Reshade for the sake of dark vision isnt necessarily forbidden, just frowned upon. I'd say just use flashlights more.
Though using the Nvidia control panel will lighten up the game too.

@rich cloak customs is how you start your first few quests with prapor the first trader if you go to him and click on tasks you can accept his first quest I recommend looking up a video to get exact information on where you need to go after that I would look up some videos on how to do quest I recommend deadlyslob he has some really good and detailed videos on quests

Right now there is a pre wipe event. This is how the devs make the last week of the game before a large update as of now most maps will have raiders. These are not scavs but the ai you find on the labs they are very hard and carry good gear
Next event #4 everything will be cheap and you will have max level traders to try out gear

For now just shoot everything mate, but you can easily tell once you learn their basic appearance. If you mean Player Scavs you have to pay close attention to how they move, look around and act and even then it's hard to tell
Also if it has two guns it's not a regular scav so that's a HUGE indicator
