When I went on the wiki and checked there map at old gas there was only the number of old gas over the pmc extract then it had the loose loot and med kit in front of the scav extract

@amber venture That mosin mission was annoying. You just gotta find a map where you can get the range you need and feel comfortable in and know where the scavs usually spawns. I did it on shoreline and farmed the island, gas station, village and villa and the pier.

The issue isn't gear, it's funds
Everyone has, due to labs, basically infinite funds because of the massive ROI that map has. But if you lower the spawn chance of expensive items or raiders with good gear, you simply lower the amount of wealthy players. If you increase the keycard price, it doesn't make the runs worth it and kills the map, then if you remove the cards altogether you just make the first problem worse.
Tarkov on its current state just needs something to pour money into to remove it from the games economy more efficiently than vendors or FM fees. Hopefully the Hideout will help with that.

I've seen streamers get on top of stuff near RUAF roadblock, to view the river/train/bridge/road, but gotta deal with scavs. Otherwise you have the classic spots near Customs Office building, where you can look into that open space, and the spot on the cliffs between military and gas station.

The EOD case is better IMO you can put ammo cases and mag boxes inside them which is nice if you run expensive rounds
You can get a 4x2 secure when you finish the punisher questline

m61 if you want best ammo but m80 is budget ammo i think, still basically 4 shots anything to the chest (i think)

Depends on what you're doing
M80 is best general purpose round.
1 hits chest on level 4 and lower armor , but suffers against level 5 and 6 to some degree.
M61 will always 2 tap in the chest , and is more forgiving with range calls.
M62 tracer has better pen than m80, but is a 2 tap to the chest typically, and is slower than m80, so it will always hit low to the stated point of aim.

More often than not, m80 will get the job done. Even against higher tier armors it doesn't take much to break them. But m61 is guaranteed 2 tap if you are confident in sending two rounds directly to chest in quick succession. otherwise you are firing just as much with m80 which for all other intents and purposes is still really strong.

As a new player what should I be doing first? I understand there’s quests in the game, but those are a bit confusing to me. I’ve just been playing as a scav and trying to find better gear. Should I be trading shit I find, and buy better gear? I’d just like a general path I should take.

Considering 0.12 is on its way soon the best you can do is learn all/most of the maps enough to where you don't need a map open while playing
And just keep idly doing the tasks during your normal raids and see how far you get before the wipe
And don't think too much about money since it's gonna reset soonish anyway - use the guns now that you might want to try out but worry are too expensive
So that now you get some experience with using them, so you can use them effectively in the future
Check prices of stuff on Flea Market and try to establish a general sense of how much what's worth, so you know what is good loot going onwards
And then just, yeah, play the game and try to progress in tasks and gain levels, and maintain just enough money to cover expenses of dying occasionally

Shoreline is okay but kinda lackluster without keys
Interchange is the best loot map for a newer player since ith as good variety and a lot of stuff with only a few keys

Shoreline is imo the best map to have a few "successful" runs as a new player, just avoiding the resort
but interchange is a good one to go in either very cheap, or as a Scav
If you plan to play after the Wipe for sure, then playing on Customs and doing some of the early missions will also be useful
as you'll need to do them post wipe as well, and you'll have learned the map
Biggest tip is to go to the wiki and favorite those maps on there, with the extracts marked, and start playing a lot on the maps so you can start knowing where you are

I've heard Reshala's bodyguard's sometimes get vocal at you even if you are a SCAV (if you are within 20ft or something), and if they do you know to stop being close, otherwise you are fine

Adar has an accuracy bug atm, you will struggle to hit head shots after 150m with it.
Couple that with 5.56's super high zeroing it makes for some irritating encounters

AKS74 = mid recoil low ergo

All have about the same recoil, but the short ones are worse and the solid stock one is the best

I recommend avoiding that map until you get a handle on how to do peeking and stuff
You can learn cqc angles on Interchange around the stores
Dorms in Customs is a bit too cramped compared to Labs, and Factory is too vertical so it doesnt really transfer
As for the raiders, their aim can be insane sometimes, its best to lure them to you around stuff

First major PMC kill, he had an mpx, like 5 grenades, a nice rig and armour.
