So the 12x70 RIP round is basically a low pen high damage slug. If you shoot a leg its gonna insta black it out since it has much less health. How many leg shots does it take to kill a player then? Or are you better just using buck or slug and aiming center mass

I've been reading here, and I see a lot of people struggling vs groups of players. If I might make a suggestion or two from an IRL perspective that you might be able to apply to the game, quite often the reason you die to a group is staying in one place too long.
What I mean is, you kill one, then you fall back and wait on a corner or watching a certain angle
That's a death warrant unless you're 100% positive your position wasn't discovered
It's ideal to follow a fire and maneuver method in cases where you find yourself outnumbered
So you fire, kill, back off and come around another side

It's tactically sound to deceive your targets into thinking there's more than one of you
Most of the time, large groups in Tarkov are inexperienced in working together and will shy into being pure defensive
If you want to, it's advisable to get one or two other people and play together
constantly
That's the easiest way to deal with squads

any experienced players wanna help get me and a friend on the right path? we're both around level 10 and find it really hard to kill other pmc's it feels like we're always getting flanked or just one shot in every single encounter

If you are flanked easily, that means you and your friends both observe the front too much, not to mention moving both together behind eachother and too close, never move in open areas and always have some sort of cover available
Also being able to tell where the shots are coming from is 50% of chance to get out alive
Having a plan before entering map helps too, since that way you can prepare for combat depending on where you go

Map knowledge really helps in these situations too, for example on interchange if you know the map well enough, you can begin to anticipate flanks easier. If you are in Techlight for example and kill a guy at the bottom of the escalators to Oli, knowing that zone of the map means you can watch the maintenance stairs at the back, which if the opponent squad took would allow them to flank you from the front, underneath and around through mid. If you know the potential options it gets a lot easier to read.

It somewhat depends on where you are server wise too, try jumping to different servers and playing a few raids till you find your sweet spot

The type of sight you use and the placement on the gun can heavily influence this
but as before, when it comes to headbobbing, there's really no reason to have it above the minimum, especially in milsim games like Arma, or Tarkov. The head motion will only make it harder to see targets while moving.
I remember when I'd play Arma and have it set to max, it was like watching a gopro that was recording from inside a dryer running at full speed.

Drag, best way to accomplish tasks is to either night raid, or have your objective as your main goal priority, and avoid fights you can't win. You should always check the task area and run a clean sweep of your angles before moving in on your task.
Alternatively, you can run squads for added safety

Which then unlocks the combined map
So technically speaking, you're getting your campaign in the form of escaping through the story

Is there ever a need to change zeroing distance? And if so how do you judge how far away someone is? I've never ever changed mine and never thought about it till a friend asked me and now I'm unsure

Because the mil-dots on the scopes are not very exact and vary per weapon and even ammo type, zeroing is the easiest way to dial in long range shots
The range finder on the scopes that have it kinda works but it's not exactly right to scale as it should be, so mostly knowing ranges just comes from experience
@reef spoke has some maps with a 100x100m grid overlaid on them to give an idea, if you have interest you could ask him for them
But to answer more briefly: There's no need, but it's the preferable method of shooting past 2-300m

And most importantly because you cant just farm those items and sell them off to questers, thus devaluing those items a lot, the spawn rates could be increased to make the quests more bearable to do properly, and make NPC barter trades viable again (when quest items were purchasable, none of the barters using them were ever any good as it was always more profitable to just sell the item)
