I just got into a fight with a scav. I shot 10 buckshot. according to the ded screen I shot 4 rounds and only 1 hit count. how is that even possible? he flinched and was bloody every time I shot. 123 armor 19 body dmg. am i just tripping?
checking the character screen, I have 18 shotgun shells in my pouch. thats not possible cause I reloaded 3 times and had 2 in my gun at start.

I have always found the post death screen statistics to be shoddy at best, and the problems are exaggerated with shotguns, specifically when you are firing multiple projectiles per round.

I would say most people get screwed most of their raids, the community will try to make you think that there're way more of those folks than you think, but a whole lotta people are struggling.

Late wipe doesn't help, people have had their time to get comfortable with their equipment and get their ideal loadouts, even if someone wasn't the best, through sheer force of will anyone could have gotten to that level and equipment, so you're fighting an up hill battle if you haven't had long to play.

my usual way is to get all the easy quests out of the way until im at about level 10-14 and just go factory but avoid players and headshot as many scavs as I can and extract. If I can get 10-15 headshots on scavs I think I got around 6k-15k exp, I cant remember but it was quick.

What ammo do you have? If it's anything that's not Action SX then you should not be going for legs probably, both Subsonic and FMJ penetrate class 4 and even class 5 reasonably well.

If it's Action SX then legs are probably best, 65 flesh damage and 50% fragmentation chance

Woods is harder to learn but safer. (Would suggest starting here)
Customs is easier to learn but more dangerous.

Use these maps - they'll look cluttered at first. Hit "Hide All" on the left-hand toolbar, then scroll down and only toggle on "Extractions" and "Locations". That'll give you a pretty good look - feel free to toggle on some loot options as you go

Head into a practice mode on one of those maps, toggle on some AI scavs, and try to get a feel for the map, movement, gunplay, scav killing, etc.
When you're ready - try to scav into one of those maps and actually get some loot out.
Then you can take your PMC in online and try to do some quests or loot or simply survive.
Good luck - you will die, try to have fun with it.
