7.62x39 PS isn't all that. It's good, but it's not that good, even T4 can resist it for a hit or two. T5, or especially T6 can just shrug it off. If this is PvE, the PMCs often have Slick, which is hard to notice with how low-profile it is; when the PMC is outstandingly tanky for no apparent reason, this is usually why.

Ah I rarely see t6 plates nowadays in pvp. I think the guy ate 6 ps shots on the chest with the other 5 being shots that pen'd his arm and then hit his chest. Still it seems like a crazy high number but I probably blacked both his arms and got his thorax real low

if it's PvP, there's at least two easy sources of T6 plates there rn, the white ornament craft and the RAM barter. It should be available more commonly.

most of this armor dmg is me chewing through a mere Korund T5 with 7.62x39 PS. I won the fight in the end, but the plate was exceptionally effective against it. Didn't need to be T6, something to keep in mind.
