That smoke ring though
it's not quite as thick as i'd like
pellet smokers apprently have a tougher time building bark
Damn you!! Now I need to get or diy a smoker
I don't think I've ever had brisket
i'm gonna get you to spend your paycheck before you get it
it's the same cut as corned beef, @burnt night
And it's something I've always wanted to try.
I'm gonna have to try to find somewhere here or get back out to the US
Well, I've had pastrami but that's not like bbq brisket
it's usually significantly cheaper cut than sirloin or ribeye
brisket here runs $8/lb, NY strip is ~$13/lb
hello
Looks good. I got a couple of ribeyes I'm going to smoke this weekend.
Tis a pork chop but ribeye sounds delish
I'm going to go for a reverse sear on it - smoke it at 200 until i get close to medium rare, then i'll crank up the temp to up max for a sear
The butcher also had the biggest lamb chops I had ever seen
lamb is tough to get the right cut
And i really wanted one but they were $35 a pound
too many times, i've bought lamb and gotten sheep
Reverse sears are amazing
That's some proper deep browning, yes please
Yessss that was a quick rip on the cast iron. Almost too much smoke though
heyy
Heyy
That's some proper deep browning, yes please
@burnt night
"Wherever I go, I see his face"
I become super excited whenever I see your machines cause I know they will be good, thanks for good content
Gave +1 Rep to @burnt night
Wait till you see what I'm working on rn 👀
still working on it?
@burnt night @tawdry dove
Reverse sear, initial bake was done on the smoker@200F. Searing was in a cast iron on the grill @450F
Lawd
initial seasoning was kosher salt and black pepper, no marinade
nah, not special enough for a tomahawk. just an ordinary ribeye
maybe next weekend, i'm making a trip to costco saturday
My lamb sausage was meh yesterday. Definitely my fault though
Ive had camel meat cooked in fat yesterday, cant express enough how tasty it was
Nah I had the butcher do it. They were trying a lamb and pineapple sausage and I messed up by not making sure my sous vide timer started
Oh, that SUCKS. I really want a string of those now
Yeah it was lamb, pineapple, and what I can only describe as curry spices by the smell
I'm 0.7% good steak
Damn that looks tasty
Sear isn't as good as the last one. Didn't use the cast iron this time
Ya know, if you spent less time cooking and ordered more pizza, you could have more time for hacking. Just a thought 😉
Hm. Order salad then
insert family guy pizza shop salad skit
The color looks really good on this one
Oh North Carolina, the choices your governing bodies make
Allegedly, the Engineering board is trying to charge a 77 year old with a crime for providing advice and testimony while not having a license. The man was an engineer for 45 years
60 second prime rib
only seared on one side and left rare on the other
@celest cairn @meager mason look at my meat babes
Correct, then grilled
I love garlic done that way. It's like candy.
I ate at a fancy 5 course dinner place once. One of the starters was half an onion grilled with some cottage cheese I think. It was like candy
use less sugar?
yeah but i don't know how much lol
Get the powder?
powder?
i.e. flavored cocaine
add like 1/4 of what you are used too and then do a taste test until happy?
true i'll just do that
unrelated, does anyone know of any websites for summer jobs as a graphic designer for my friend? linkedin and glassdoor don't seem to have much
Maybe UI/UX work?
The only time I hear of that kind of work is when people are freelancing it
hmm she hasn't done too much of that, she 'specialises' (imo) in like poster style graphics, or if you've seen grease, the opening sequence animations in that she does really well
did she try fivver or what ever it's called?
nah but i can probably get her to have a look on there
but a real job would be better for cv purposes and business experience
Weiners with... Red wine and Sage? I forget.
😮
When will be the recording of latest talk be uploaded in #archives?
Its been more than a day
that's beautiful
You cheating on me? 👀
never baby
I'm going to smoke a meatloaf tomorrow...pics to follow
like in a pipe? wouldn't the bread in the meat loaf absorb a lot of bitterness from the smoke?
Not a pipe...guess it's a bullet smoker
A pellet smoker?
Or is a bullet smoker an actual thing
Oh it is a thing. It's shaped like an egg
third day of sailing course, and we caught a storm.
https://proqsmokers.co.uk/collections/bbq-smokers/products/proq-frontier-bbq-smoker got one like that, but an older version
Absolutely awesome product

Sailing is fun
Especially catching a boom in the chest
Didn't do that, but I was shoulder deep in the lake
still on the boat though!
Yeah thankfully it wasn't a big boat so the boom wasn't huge. Still hit like a truck though and tossed me out into the lake
Yeah this probably wouldn't have been more than 19' I don't think
two sails, still?
Todays wind was at 13m/s at max, with 18m/s gusts. And I guess the storm front that hit it, the gust was way more than 20m/s
yeah, I guess it's called a headsail.
I wanted to say spinnaker but I think thats different
yeah, that's the bag-style sail for sailing in tailwind?
Is that like an arrow to the knee?
I went sailing once. It ended very badly. Never had a chance to do it again after that
I've only done lake sailing
Does Sea of Thieves count as sailing xp?
I've no idea what the specific types of sails are called in English...
Yeah i dont even know the names
I think they also change depending on the boat style
they do. And even that boat had three different types of foresails
a roller mast for jib (fokka) and genoa (?) sails, and a spinnaker.
Yeah ive heard of all of those types but all I know is that spinnaker goes in front lol
They all do 😄

For 12 people or?
I've seen what's involved in cooking for like 6 and it's impressive
Man I love a full english...except mushrooms...never liked them
Yes
Good man
Wow, I want
I would always get a full English at the Irish pub when I was in Germany
Wow that's a lot of countries
That was certainly the life. Wake up, take the U-Bahn to the pub, get a full English and a Guinness at 9 in the morning, and then watch the rugby world cup
Oh no, morning drinking
Guinness is a great breakfast drink
Also this isn't drinking to get drunk. That Guinness would last the entire 80 minute match
James, you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.
throwback to starting the day drinking at 3 am
Took off from Boston at 6pm, landed in Ireland, and immediately started drinking
And then continued the drinking all the way to Berlin
nothing like morning drinks in the airport 🤤
Beef bacon is a little weird
Not a fan

Chicken bacon is good...I was surprised eating it the first time
Lies. Bacon is bacon. Anything else is tofu

Yeah probably a scalable AWS cloud instance
Not really sure what the exact designation would be
Yeah, I'm in the middle of developing a room rn. You can upload a .ova or .qcow2 image, and it'll convert to AWS
Pork chop
looks good 🧑🍳
People like me and Muirland and a whole load of other people make 'em
Then y'all get to attack them, you click "deploy" and get your own instance
Hai slow chat
Hi Friend
Looks tasty
AWS magic and a wonderful community
🙂
More pork
Nice color on the meat and I can see seasoning, you wouldn't believe how many people forget the seasoning. Slightly ironic considering it's the most important part.
Just like @devout scarab who doesnt season his food 👀 😛
What?! I thought Hex was a foodie?
whole lotta pork
I am very much enjoying the "what is on Moose's counter today" vibe
I vibe with that
A lot of bullshit that needs to be cleaned lol
Are you getting rude to man?
Don't know what you're talkin aboot
haha
Lucky
I might buy a chuck steak next and sous vide it for 24 hours, then use the community grill to finish it
Looks really good
Hello i lost my laptop and i want Someone to find it for me
water bathing is a superior cooking method, do you have a water bath? What temp will you bath it at? We used to water bath a full sirloin @ 55 for around 4/5 hours then finish it (seal) in a kopa grill. It was a delight. The kopa grill is my pfp
hehe check ebay 😛
Or craigslist 😛
@remote sail you about sir
hey ya, who whants to do a new room together ?
Roasted Chickpea, Cauliflower, and Broccoli salad with Dukka and a Almond Yogurt based dressing. @quaint basin You'd be proud 🙂
I am now
You can also dm me if you need to. I might be afk for large chunks of time today
thanks 😄 it was not related to hacking as much as running actually the other day I had a 15k training run (3k further than my longest) and I bombed out at 8k... zzz
Gave +1 Rep to @remote sail
training for a half marathon, how do i push these limits, i just feel so defeated
dm me if not really appropriate etc tho haha
why did you have to stop? Muscle fatigue, or breathing?
okay. that's something that does take time to build, but there are also technique issues that make things harder/easier
one really common thing with "new" runners is way too much vertical motion (really bad on your feet and knees especially), and too much arm motion. For the later, just keep your hands open and relaxed, and kinda near your hips. Don't swing them, just let them kinda float there. For the former, it's hard to provide real advice without watching you run. If you feel like you are landing hard on your heels or your feet, shorten your stride a bit. Another sign of that is that your knees might hurt. Shorter stride does mean faster run tempo, which takes a while to get used to, and might feel like more work at first (higher heart rate, faster breathing). But long term it's better for your body
those "barefoot" vibram five finger shoes kinda force you into a natural gait rather than an elongated stride, which most running shoes encourage, but they are hard to get used to
which part of your legs hurt the most?
wow cool info, interesting, i just got some new shoes for longer distances but my main pain is feet + calves recently
what kind of shoes?
my other shoes are a lot more similar to barefoot tbh, and i've used them for over 400k and when i run longer distance (over 7) I too often end up sore
hmm well right now for "long runs" (slow and over 5k) i'm using new brookers glycerin, and for my short / faster runs i'm using my old new balance something rather
so that does like a "typical" running shoe with tons of heel padding
the new ones are
shoes like that encourage you to take longer strides, which means you strike more with the back of your heel than the bottoms of your feet, so that causes knee problems/pain
and this is a problem for practically ALL running shoes
these shoes a) make half my foot numb and b) steal my energy BUT
i dont get any similar pains to my older shoes
like my old shoes i hit certain distances and my legs want to fall apart
these are so comfy
do you by any chance have a good running specific shoe store, or a triathlon store near you?
Also how much stretching are you doing?
Or dynamic warm-ups would be the proper term
not specifically no
honestly i hope my new shoes are a problem and a few more tries will be used to it and 'll be fine
like I tell myself distacne is irrelevant right, just slow down and I can do antything, but eventually my brain just mentally breaks me and i have to walk a bit or whatever
So, part of me wants to say "just slowly build up your endurance", which can take months or years depending on where you're at now. Part of me wants to say "go find a running coach who can analyze your stride".
also- don't be afraid to take walk breaks, that's perfectly acceptable
mmmmm both smart, good advice
the mere though of walking is faling to me on a 'long run' - maybe thats the wrong mentality to have
it took me a long time to be able to do full marathons without a walk break, and probably almost every single ultramarathon I've done I've had to do breaks
ultras are something else
yeah no doubt, i have a mate who's done a few of those and has a definite love hate relationship with it
this might also be something to check out: http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/run-walk/
i'll take a look, thanks for chatting to me about it
yeah, no prob
one thing I would caution you on: it's easy to push past pain into injury. I've done that countless countless times
helps a lot, i dont know many who do it and I really want to finih this half marathon in sep
so I would definitely try to get a real running coach to video your stride. And if you can't, then maybe take a video of your running (from back, front, and side), and send it to someone to review. I can look at it, but I'm not like certified or anything, it'd just be my own opinions based on my experience
ok, that is cool and good advice, I may do that actually, I just feel like such a noob even though i've run so much (it feels like)
how long have you been running/training for this?
specifically for this, 2 months so far I guess
its 16 week program and i'm at 6 weeks to go
link me the program?
another thought: what surface(s) do you run on? Concrete sidewalk? Asphalt? Grass? uneven/off-road trails?
asphalt 100%, I did a compltely different run the other day and it was like 400 stairs I didn't know about which ruined my calves for a week
oh god, yeah
hahah
you think that's bad, do a 'tour de stad'. Go to a big stadium and run up and down every single stair
and then good luck walking for about a week
this was bad enough, I ran when I got down but the next day I was broken and it hurt my training sched a little
not much, but a bit
something else that may seem strange: walking is great recovery/workout/training
you could do like a 10-20mi or whatever walk/hike, and that's actually great training. It does force your feet/tendons/blood vessels/etc to adapt
mmmm sounds good too
ok, thanks, good to talk to someone, i'll keep pushing and re-do this weeks trainng, appreciate the info @remote sail
Gave +1 Rep to @remote sail
yeah, no problem
I would definitely try to go see a running coach and have them check your stride. Or two, since every coach will have several ideas/opinions
listen to your body, though- if it's hurting, then something is wrong. Part of endurance running will always hurt, but there's a difference between just fatigue/lactic acid pain, and doing damage to your body
I've found that line the hard way usually, and it took me years to figure out where my body's limits are, and how to push them without injury
also, I wouldn't worry too much about pace. I'm skimming this running plan, and it's talking a lot about pace. Just do what is comfortable, don't set a target pace or time, not until you become much more experienced and know your body a lot better
a separate conversation we can have is around nutrition and how to fuel your body, before and during the race. 🙂
true, thank you for the advice and kind words,i';d never taken anything during an run and i have ruled out a few things that make me really bad during a run (rice) so generally dont eat, pace doesn't bother me so much thought I listen to the guided runs they seem reasonable I guess its only the long run i struggle with
Yeah, use that as a guide if you want (there are lots of other plans out there too you can compare with), but ultimately, let your breathing and your body determine your pace. Your goal is completion without injury, not to win. So if you need to walk or slow down or whatever, that's fine
I feel like on a long run, as soon as I walk i've failed and wasted all my time
probably not a useful mentality
definitely not a useful mentality 🙂
the whole walk/run method works great for some, works horrible for others
for me personally, it would actually make it harder to start back up, so I would rather just slow down really far, to the point where I'm at a walking pace, then to actually start walking. It really depends on the distance and your body though
I know people who do the walk/run method and love it
(Former military here: our running exercise included a lot of walking too; it really has its purpose)
something I started doing when I got into ultras was walking for the refueling/eating parts sometimes. But I had to break ultras into walk phases, I just couldn't do 40+ miles without it
And lots of ruckmarching
depends on the race
not exactly the same as a casual 4hr jog lol
you might also be thinking of adventure racing, which is also fun/miserable
And reading a map on the fly silently wishing your eyes were a bit more stable :p
😄
but bottom line, don't feel like a failure. Set yourself low/medium/high goals. Maybe something like: 1) show up and try 2) complete it without injury 3) complete it under X pace. If you show up and give it your best, you already win. If you have to quit or get hurt or whatever, that's okay- learn from it and do better next time. I once had to quit a half-ironman at like 50 miles into it. It sucked.
alrighty, does make a bit of sense, I guess I feel like if i'm completing all the workouts on the list why is it so damn hard to do the long rnu sometimes, but its likely a combination of factors some i can control and some I cant
breaking through new barriers is tough running for me, like i put up my own mental walls
I'd really want to look at your running form (video analysis is soooo useful), and your nutrition strategies
or not me personally, but you should have someone knowledgeable do it/help you w/ that
I don't take any footage or me running unfortunately
you may also want to grab: https://smile.amazon.com/Triathletes-Training-Bible-Worlds-Comprehensive-ebook/dp/B01MY7VCIJ
Buy The Triathlete's Training Bible: The World’s Most Comprehensive Training Guide, 4th Ed.: Read Kindle Store Reviews - Amazon.com
See if you can find a running coach/running store/triathlon store in your area that can do video analysis. If not, get a friend to film you on a treadmill and I can look at the vids and tell you what I think. Before you do, let me know, and I can show you what I'm looking for
sounds awesome, thank you, I have considered joining a club here but feel so amateur i'm not sure how it would be received
oh don't be scared- most people would probably be very friendly and inviting
there are a few kinds of endurance athletes: the pros/elites, the "wannabe elites" who are really dang good and maybe snobby, the enthusiasts, and the casuals
most people are inviting and friendly to new folks, at least in my experience. The only rude/snobby ones I have run into are the ones who are focused on times/winning/placing/money/etc., and who may be struggling to achieve that
in fact- that ironman I had to drop out, I got back to the waiting area at the same time some of the leaders were finishing the race, they were all super friendly and gave me great advice, even though I'd just dropped out of the race
ahhh, haha, understandable, I may look more into it, I always figured i'd get what i need from audio guidance and didn't see value in a club but I have run my best times at actual 'runs' and not solo so maybe there is something to working out with others too
oh wow, thats awesome
there definitely can be, yeah. More motivation, more competition, having a pacer, someone to talk to and take your mind off the pain, whatever works for you
we all have different needs/motivations, and that can also change a lot during a race
just do what's fun for you :).
One thing I'll caution you about with run clubs, though: everyone will give you a lot of advice, and some of it will be conflicting. Some will be bad or even dangerous. So you have to do your homework, and use common sense, and a lot of it is trial and error. Especially nutrition, that's a very personal thing. What works for me might not work for you. Over time, you'll learn your body better and be able to have a better sense of what is "good" advice and what is not, for you
yeah I noticed a lot of pro and during run nutrition seems to vary
what do you feel for you, is a run you need to take any nutrition on
that book I linked above talks a lot about it. It was always something I struggled to perfect
it depends on distance, temps, and humidity
like i've never had any problems or though about it, even running on an empty stomach of a morning up to 10k but i've heard bad things about running further or over 12k etc what even happens, how do you know?
I got to where I could do half marathons with no water or nutrition. I'd just go out with some chewing gum to keep my mouth moist. But then later on, I started taking gatorade and salt tablets with me, especially for longer runs or in hotter weather
i got some gels but taking them feels like more energy than they give me almost
interesting
what most people seem to do/recommend is a light breakfast- maybe some oatmeal or an egg, some gels, someething like that. You want to eat at least an hour or more before the race, to fully digest it
during the race, anything from gatorade to gels to water to salt tablets, to custom mixes
For my long runs (15+ miles, let's say), I started running with a fuel belt with 4 drink pods, similar to this: https://smile.amazon.com/FuelBelt-3409-Wachusett-Belt-Black/dp/B000FJ6LGS/
Amazon.com : FuelBelt Wachusett Belt, Black : Fuel Belt Wachusett Belt : Sports & Outdoors
fixed the link 🙂
that's quite a few extras to run with though
https://smile.amazon.com/Harbinger-FuelBelt-Hydration-Lightweight-Two-Bottle/dp/B06ZYTJZ8K might be another good option for you
Amazon.com : FuelBelt Helium Ergo Hydration Lightweight, Two-Bottle Running Belt, Heather Grey : Sports & Outdoors
yep, like I said, it's a very personal decision
you might not need it. And during a race, there will be aid stations every few miles with water/gatorade/heed/oranges/gels/protein bars/chicken soup/etc
but double check that- each race is different
yeah I'll take note, I'd ideally only like to refuel of any sort once on a half marathon and twice on a marathon but i'll try a half first and it's in september so
still more time to prepare, thank you for all the insight
no problem :). SOmething that also helps me is chewing gum. I breathe through my mouth when I run, so it gets dry. But gum helps with that
I try breathe through my nose inwards and mouth outwards when running but it does take some concious effort occasionally to maintain it
whatever works for you :). I couldn't get enough air that way
might try gum soon and see if it helps
yeah i imagine you were going a fair bit faster than me lol
eh, I dunno. I wasn't a speedy person
my best marathon was just under 3:30, which was like an 8 min pace
and that was definitely my peak- I was running 100-150 mi/wk at the time and in pretty great shape
nutty, one of my friends runs around 4:40 per km and thins he is slow too
I think my best half-iron was like sub 7hours, don't recall exactly
i'm like 6:00 - 6:15 kmph
yeah, that's fast
thats insane
I have a good friend who qualified for and ran Boston, which is a really big deal
he was a sub 3 hour full marathon, don't recall exactly.
wow
its so alien how fast that is, like, they are virtually my springing an entire marathon
yeah. And that again comes back to- everyone is different. So listen to advice, but use what works for you, discard what doesn't. A lot of it becomes trial and error, and that just takes time. The trick/the key is doing that without injury, while you build up that experience.
yeah I can definitely agree with that message, injury seems to be the number one thing that slows down progress over tiem
absolutely
and speaking from experience, I've broken my body in just about every way there is doing all kinds of dumb things. Don't be like me 🙂
part of endurance sports is pushing past the point where your body wants to quit, but you can take that too far and push past injury. I did that a LOT, and I pay for that as I get older.
true, I do want to have a slow and steady build up not a hurt myself going to hard
yeah. SO listen to your body, don't focus on pace, don't worry about taking walk breaks
set a goal just to show up and learn from it. Finish if you can, at any pace. Anything beyond that is extra
there WILL be other races, so if this one turns out poorly, that's okay. Don't get upset about it.
it's an endurance sport, you gotta think long term/big picture :).
yep! OK i might beat myself up less over walking a bit on the long runs
not that i've had to do it much the other day was a real downer
we all have bad days, don't beat yourself up
the way I look at it is this: most of the world is sitting on the couch or in front of a computer doing nothing. If you're just out there showing up, you're already doing great. So just enjoy the moment
honestly, positive mental attitude is key. Use whatever motivates you, but for most people, keeping upbeat about it/staying happy does help
"We rejoice in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces character, character produces hope. And hope does not disappoint us." ROMANS 5:3-4 - An adventure racers prayer.
hi friends, Im new to THM, I was trying to learn buffer overflow by https://tryhackme.com/room/bufferoverflowprep , In task 1 there is a VM deployment It shows "This room uses a 32-bit Windows 7 VM with Immunity Debugger and Putty preinstalled. Windows Firewall and Defender have both been disabled to make exploit writing easier." but loading an ubuntu VM, Can someone please help me
I haven't done that room, so I don't know. Best bet is to ask in #room-help or perhaps #site-support
Tnx alot, I will check
Hi guys, can someone please tell me how to fire up the terminal in windows after connecting to Openvpn. I am new to this stuff
Why are you using Windows ?
Highly recommend you use a VM. It will save you quite some trouble.
I have acquired Chuck for 24 hour sous vide
what do you guys think you need to become the computer guy at a school? (not saying that i want to god please no) just curious
Depends on the size of the district honestly
Some districts only have one person on staff so they will need to have previous IT experience to be considered, or should have previous experience. Not always the case
24 hour sous vide has been started
Happy solstice.
31 degrees forecast for today, so it's damn hot.
Tomorrow is 95° Freedom
And I was late, the solstice was already 17 minutes ago 😛
Getting some Thunderstorms Tuesday though and it's dropping the temperature down to 50° Freedom for the day
Mmh. We should have it above 20, mostly near 30 for the next couple of weeks.
I like it for certain measurements. Metric isn't granular enough when it comes to temperature
Just depends on the situation for which system I use
Nah I don't want to be using decimals when I'm trying to figure out the weather or how fast I'm going in a car
Cooking and baking I'll use metric though
Then use more granularity by using km/h for car speed 🙂
The US is to big for KM
Though we do use acres to measure land area
I don't like how 100km/h is only 60mph
It is traditionally defined as the area of one chain by one furlong (66 by 660 feet), which is exactly equal to 10 square chains, 1⁄640 of a square mile, or 43,560 square feet, and approximately 4,047 m2, or about 40% of a hectare.
isn't that practical
Oh wtf I thought acres were metric
Apparently "Are" is the 10m by 10m area, acre is that monstrosity
I thought it was the base unit for area but I guess you would just say ares?
This is why metric is confusing and dumb and freedom units are better
And note how it makes USA look smaller, China is 5000 kilometers from west to east, whereas USA is only 3500 miles 🙂
the only benefit to using Imperial measurements are learning to convert between bases pretty early on - there is a reason that all physical science research areas standardized to metric decades ago
The only benefit to using non-metric is beer. By getting a pint you get more 🍺
How would you know that if you couldn't convert between pints and litres though 😄
It's not about "couldn't", it's about "wouldn't" 🙂
Pints
I use quarts and gallons when drinking beer
Oh, and I'm talking about UK pints, not the small US ones!
Yeah i think ive only ordered a pint a couple of times
The bar near school had personal pitchers
And i usually go to craft places that have bigger glasses than pints if I'm out somewhere
I want to get one of those boot glasses for beer but we're planning on migrating so buying anything breakable now is out of the question
Beer boots are a excellent device if you get the rotation right, v messy otherwise haha
From a chugging perspective that is
T-10 minutes until 24 hour chuck is done
Idk whether to grill it or to use the cast iron
I might Grill it and bring the cast iron out to the grill to make the bourbon sauce
I don't want to deglaze with bourbon indoors
Prepped and ready
Sous vide chuck with a grill sear and a bourbon sauce made from the juices
That looks phenomenal
Now you made me hungry... that looks amazing!
Glad i did the flambe outside
And I probably shouldn't use a plastic spatulas while doing it
😢
I heard one of the tenants open the door behind me as soon as I lit the pan and a huge ball of fire went up. Hung in there though and finished it off
it's ok, the cow is going to good use in moose's belly
This was also ethically sourced
Is it though?
Eh, nothing ethical about slaughtering something unnecessarily, regardless of the conditions you keep it in beforehand. Although this is not the place for that debate
the way that moose workouts, he needs all the protein he can get
Plenty of places you can get protein 🤷♂️
I only eat red meat once a week. It's not just about the protein. There are other nutrients
And I'd rather not take a pill to get them

Nice 🙂
Ok thanks
This sounds very weird out of context
replied to the wrong one but you get the joke
hahaha, what temp do you bath at CMN?

I thought about responding with a bathing reference
But decided the question could be worded either way

I find it funny that somewhere in the world there's a cut of beef called "birria" 😅 it means something of little to no value in Spanish.
I think that's the actual meaning? Usually very very cheap meat?
Birria (Spanish: [ˈbirja] (listen)) is a Mexican dish from the state of Jalisco. The dish is a meat stew traditionally made from goat meat, but occasionally made from beef or mutton. The dish is often served at celebratory occasions, such as weddings and baptisms, and holidays, such as Christmas and Easter. Preparation techniques vary, but the d...
It would make sense, yeah. I never heard of that before, I guess it's not really used in Europe.
I've been seeing alot of birria recipes popping up on my recommended, must be some sort of resurgence

I bought a stand mixer
Opportunities are endless now
Went to make hummus and I don't have any lemons. Real or fake juice
bottled works fine
I wasn't aware you could make hummus in a stand mixer, you kind of need a food processor type thing
but if you like it chunky, you could make it by hand too
Two completely unrelated things
mixer won't be here until Wednesday
oh ha
I just went and bought lemons

I recently bought a couple of tomahawk steaks to cook this weekend
Yeah i bought a ribeye
I want to try kobe or wagu but it is hard to get good qualty like grade a4
True but just once a week or 2 like a cheat day haha
Yeah i want to try real wagyu and real wasabi
Gotta go to Japan though for the wasabi
Real wasabi i don't think you can find that in europe or it is super expensive maybe more than wague
Haha
Can't find it in the US either
I heard of one place that was trying to grow wasabi in Oregon or Washington and I think they have been unsuccessful so far
I think its super hard to grow harder then mushrooms
Yeah it only grows in a creek bed? If I remember correctly. And the humidity has to be just right

I think im gonna make a floof Omelette today
How many eggs do you usually go for
I've only just gotten better at cracking eggs without breaking the yolk. Separating colors is beyond me for now
Crack on a flat surface and don't throw the egg
Take your thumbs and press in on the crack and tilt allowing the white to drop and then pass the yolk in between the two shells
I should practice this. I want to make flan for christmas
It's also alright if the yolk pops, as long as it's not in your whites
Slightly overcooked floof Omelette
Nice crispy looking cloud you got there.

Dear lord. I just had a nightmare about a fictional college math course but the weird part is that it was a continuation of a nightmare from a couple of years ago
that's pretty uncool
I've just had sick young kids at home (2x 5>), and spent maybe 5 hours studying CISSP, THM & AZ-104
re: nightmare though, it's funny how the mind works - like recurring dreams and shit.
@tawdry dove I have nightmares about not actually graduating whenever I'm super stressed.
I used to have nightmares about a missed communications course, and about partially uncompleted military service
Hah sometimes I have dreams about being back in the military, and they're like oh no you still have service left to do
For some, that nightmare is a reality. Like those unfortunate enough to get indefinitely extended or whatever it's called
I have to tell myself that everyday. 😆
That'd be pretty rare in a conscription army not involved in any conflicts 🙂
when doing rooms do you guys ever take notes?
if not, how much of the information do you actively retain?
ive been taking notes but sometimes i dont and can't really recall everything i learned
I read similar to how people skim textbooks right before thoroughly reading so it can kind of flag what was important in your brain first, I take notes on things I might have trouble remembering details of
i take notes of what i think will be important for my line of work
the networking fundamentals room for example i just did them without notes but idk
habits like sleep, eating patterns etc affect memory quite a noticeable amount too
yea my sleep is shit 😆
sleep is when your memory consolidates
i cant concentrate for anything, going to get adhd testing next week actually
seems fairly common in these fields
or just in general maybe haha

flan is awesome. At my college there was a lady from Peru who was on cleaning staff for where I was living, and one day she made flan for us. That was a good day
Varg, one day I'm gonna come down to your neck of the world and make you cook me a burger. Those look tasty.
Heck to the yes. Let's goo!

I cooked a tomahawk steak for the first time today. Mother of God, each one was nearly 2 1/2 lbs before cooking. Really good, but definitely more than I can eat in 1 sitting
Yeah i didn't finish the ribeye
Cute pup! 🙂
Thanks Empty ((: his name is Diesel!
Gave +1 Rep to @remote sail
He has a floppy right ear because he got a blood clot of some sorts in it
Not petrol?
jk
You wouldn't believe how much I've heard that hehe!!
Well u gave fuel name to a dog
Nice doggo <3
That's the 2nd dog I know by that name. Similar breed too
the floppy ear is kinda cute actually. Hope it doesn't bother/affect him
thank you (((: ❤️
Oh rad! We have 3 german sheperds and uh their names are pretty interesting hehe
what are the others?
It is hehe -- yeah it doesn't affect him thankfully (hearing and things)
He can hear okay and it's no pain according to the vet as it's like help up by the soft tissue stuff that's help up by your ear idk
yeah, I would think it's no big deal. Plenty of other dogs with floppy ears
even if he was half deaf, his hearing would still be 100x better than ours
Diesel, Moon & Barely (: all brothers and sister
Moon is the sister out of the two
sounds like there's a story behind those names
Not that I'm aware off at least 😄 we also have ellie who is a border collie
I'm not sure if there's any real meaning behind it other than they're cute names hehe
it's kindof a rule that pet names have to be cute/goofy
We used to have Robin back in Sweden and that was named after a teddy-bear dog that I've had since 2 years old
first cat was named Furly
He was a golden retrieve like (fur & colour) german shepard
Very smart dogs are GS especially if you train them right
I could never get a small dog after growing up around big ones
despite all the walking that you have to do, etc
Small dogs bad.
Our border collie is pretty cool -- fits in the working german Shepards pretty well
quite funny seeing her trying to herd them together 😄
but yeah definitely working dogs are the one
When your gif doesn't work
Throwback to CMN yelling OI during a talk
Where's Thor? 👀
I've always been on the mindset of that dogs should have a purpose...for example get a dog for hunting....dogs as just pets has never been my thing....that's what cats are for
Dog's are excellent walking and hiking companions and they can also alert you of a potential intruder
But cats go off and do their own thing for a day or two at a time -- doesn't sound like a good companion to me 😄
I have a friend who has three cats and he can not see them for days...it's a strange idea to me
Not sure one should let cats roam around unless living in countryside. Atleast here it's illegal to let pets just go around without supervision in urban areas
If a cat wants to go outside, it will go outside 😁
I think the UK has different views about cats than in the US
my cat gets supervised outdoor time, but cats are often killed by cars (or worse.. poison) in the US
also cats can have a negative impact on the bird population as well although I'd be all for them taking down the rodent population but that is what snakes are for
Also don't need cats to piss and crap in sandboxes at playgrounds...also don't want anyones pet in my yard nor generally wandering around...cars can hit them by accident, crazy people try to poison dogs....so it's better to keep all pets under supervision...meaning keep it leashed if there's not a space with fences
What do you guys think are the best laptops to get if you want to install Linux? I read about Dell Inspiron and Linux X1 Carbon.
you don't need much to install Linux, depending what you do
if you are talking about bare metal
I'd be much more concerned about chipset-specific firmware support, such as bluetooth and wifi. Kernel support has gotten much better in the last few years, but due diligence is important unless you don't mind spending (potentially) a few weeks troubleshooting
I have an old HP that was a pain... Dell seemed to take Ubuntu pretty well for my father in law
I had a dell xps laptop several years ago; the broadcom wifi chip in it was known to have less than good driver support. At the time, I was dual-booting, and windows and ubuntu 12.04 wanted different versions of firmware flashed to the chip. That was a hot mess of incompatibilities, 1/10 would not do again.
i wonder when they'll add more colours to the merch store
this is lunch today https://thekoreanvegan.com/rabokki/

Hi, go to the Pre Security path room which you haven't claimed your tickets yet, then hit the gear icon on the top right near the (start attackbox), then click on reset progress and do the room again and you should be able to claim.
@meager mason hi

Only 27 now with a bit of breeze, this is fine
How about 70% humidity with 39°C
I'd be dead
It should be 15-20C...that would be fine. Honestly this wouldn't be bad but the place I have to stay for a while gets too damn hot with weather like this
This makes it easier 🙂
I do have a tub of ice cream in the freezer 🤔

Blueberry or bilberry jam
Nice
The windy lakeland also makes it more tolerable
are there a finite amount of sec+ tickets? like if enough people redeem sec+ vouchers then it wont be possible to get those tickets anymore? or something

Gave +1 Rep to @pallid citrus
Also they are not noodles
they are my special pasta 😋
what's special about it
it has milk and a lot of indian spices that make it special
I'll send you the list of ingredients
spice spice baby
Ingredients:
- Macaroni pasta
- 3 garlic cloves(finely chopped)
- 1 teaspoon of pepper powder
- 1 teaspoon of chili powder (preferably Everest chili powder, you can find it in an Indian store anywhere, if you don't just use any chilli powder)
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- 4-5 teaspoons of tomato ketchup or if you prefer it to be healthy add fresh tomato puree
- 100ml of milk
- Cheese/Mayonnaise or both (for the creamy texture(you can use any cheese you like))
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of butter/clarified butter/desi ghee(again, you can find desi ghee in any Indian store, if you don't find it just use butter or clarified butter)
- Finely chopped onions(I forgot to add onions in my recipe)
optional items:
Corn, bell pepper, meat, mushrooms or anything you want(this is a completely vegetarian recipe)
@celest cairn
Let me send the procedure also
Procedure:
- Boil the Macaroni and add salt as required according to the quantity of water, to make the pasta not taste pale and wheatish, say 2 teaspoons of salt, because we need them big and not small, adjust the quantity according to for whom you are making
- Add butter/clarified butter/desi ghee to the boiling macaroni to avoid them getting stuck together
- Drain the water after the macaroni is 90% soft you can take a spoon and check how soft it is, and run the boiled macaroni under cold water to avoid them sticking together after they are cooked.
- Take a pan and heat it, when it is hot enough add 2 spoons of Butter/Clarified butter/Desi Ghee
- Add the finely chopped garlic cloves and cook them until they are golden brown
- Now add the finely chopped onions and cook them until they are golden brown
- Once they turn golden brown add the tomato ketchup or tomato puree depends on what you are using and add 1 teaspoon of salt
- once it is cooked(for puree you will know it is cooked when the butter is on top of the puree, you can see the patches of melted butter when you see it)(and if you are using ketchup, you don't have to wait for it to cook)
- Now add your chili powder, pepper powder and sugar according to your taste
- Now add the boiled macaroni to the pan
- Add cheese/mayonnaise or both to the pan and add the milk, and keep stirring for 2-3 minutes or until it is creamy, or not too creamy, it will be a little loose in the first, but after cooling it down it will become creamy.
Then add this to a bowl/plate/whatever and enjoy
@celest cairn
sorry for pinging you twice, just notifying you 😅
needs more masala
never add oil to pasta (water)!
Adjust it to your taste
it'll only stick if you overcook it
I am not saying to add oil, add butter, so it doesn't stick
butter is oil is fats
thats why cook it to 90%
I like fats
yes, but the italian in me wants to hurt you
I am open to getting hurt
Also this is the Indian version of the Pasta!!
no fats in pasta water.
yoink badoink :>
Fats only after pasta is cooked.
after you drain it then sparingly
Or e.g. in parmigiano
if you want to avoid the pasta sticking, then immerse in ice water to stop the cooking process
read the procedure
and yeah, this is not my recipe, it's my mothers
leaving drained pasta while hot will continue to cook it
I don't want to cook it, I said, run it under cold water
yes, but no butter/oil/fats
I only trust Italian mothers for pasta recipes.
Italian Grandmothers
Even better.
Russian Grandmothers {Babushkas}
sure but not for pasta
For blin and jam
anywho, if you don't like the recipe just try it, and if you don't like it, DM me with some more, I am ready to get hurt

just try
okay, also desi cow ghee is not oil
I always use Mutti when doing italian tomato sauces
I guess I could try making one from the scratch some time, but cba
Italian pasta has a lot of spices?
This reminded me I should do this one dish with chicken and a great tomatosauce with herbs and some parmigiano-reggiano
Agreed. It'll make it harder for the sauce to stick to the pasta.
Usually not that much. chili in some sauces, arrabbiatta is the only one I can think of right away that would be spicy.
Colonialism was only invented because certain groups of people only had bland food,
By that logic nordic countries should rule the planet
usually a lot of herbs, basil is popular, and garlic
whatever grows well in a Mediterranean climate
l where is the spice...i mean what makes it spicy 😛
