Or do you have an interest in building a homelab? Connecting them to real projects and learning from mentorship by more experienced colleagues is what really made some of these concepts stick for me.

If you're not in a job related to IT right now, it may be worth looking for something like that. A lot of folks start on the IT helpdesk, and it's a great place to learn how all the systems interconnect and their value (since you'll be working directly with customers and seeing how the system working/not woking impacts them).
Personally I spent a few years working at a University IT depatment answering calls/emails/chats and I was super surprised how much I learned. Universities and colleges usually offer decent benefits too (like health insurance, retirement, reduced tuition, etc.) and unions/protections to stay in your position. The salary may not be as high as a corporate IT job, but doing a year or two of that will help put everything you're learning on THM into some more context and employers love folks with IT experience for security roles.

But I'm only one person, and "red teaming" implies a team 😄 -- To do a proper red team, you really want a team of people split between social engineering, osint, technical, etc.
